I don't care how good Iglesias has been at the plate this year when you have him batting 5th vs LHP there's a problem with the roster construction. I know this was supposed to be Kemp's spot, but there has to be a guy in the organization who mashes lefties that we can hide in LF.

I like it. Except for Votto 2nd. Righties hitting .333 and slugging .689 off of Hill this year. (sample size.) So I'm a big fan of the mostly righty lineup. We all know Votto's struggles vs lefties this year, and Hill does well vs them. Prefer Jose in the 2 hole, since his .OBP is almost .400 vs lefties, and he lacks power for the 5 hole. Get on base for Suarez and Puig to drive him in.

They don’t do any of the small things right, or at all really. They don’t move runners over, take extra bases, botch routine plays, and to me, the biggest thing is no productive at bats with runners on and less than two outs. We will get two on, then a k or pop out and the momentum is squashed

Not sure what fans reasonably expected.

This team spent four years in the 94-98 loss group.

They are better, should avoid 90 losses, they’re not going to look good against Dodgers at this stage, at least most nights.

I expect to win....I expect the team to do everything within reason to win every game every night......if that is not what everyone expects, then why waste my time supporting team?

That's all fine but with the pitching they have had it changes the way this team should have performed. Cant expect fans not to be mad about this utter failure of an offense so far.

I do think against some tough righties we should see Winker in right and Dietrich in left with Peraza at second. This guy needs some time on the bench.

Agree on seeing less of Puig and more of "anyone else," but watching Winker right now isn't much more fun than watching an awful Puig at the plate. It's too bad they don't have the Ervin from the 2nd half of last year.

The one player that baffles me that is struggling is Winker. I thought one thing you could count on is his OBP especially when he started showing power.

When you have a top 3 pitching staff, expectations should be a bit higher I think.

The most disappointing difference in this offense to me has been the lack of walks. It makes sense though because why would you walk guys who miss fastballs down the pipe constantly. Just crazy how much better the offense was last year.

Exactly. It's not like dudes are pitching around the Reds. Right at 'em. Especially Votto. They seem to know he's completely feeble now.

One thing I have noticed is that other teams seem to take advantage of the shift at times, but rarely do I ever see Reds hitters do the same thing.

The team base running is also bad

Because they are coming from the depths. Thereís a limit on reasonable expectations. Theyíre trying, theyíre better, but just not that good yet. If thatís unsatisfactory, so be it, but itís the harsh reality.

When you have a top 3 pitching staff, expectations should be a bit higher I think.

And when you have one of the leagueís worst offenses, what should the expectations be then?

You have to look at the whole picture, somethings better than expected, others worse. They are 20 -25, in position to have an improved year. I think thatís reasonable progress, next year hopefully things even better.

Good grief. Do you even understand how sports let alone life works?

You might as well get into a Hot Tub Time Machine back to 1869. Now there was a team that never disappointed.

I think fans are happier this year I would hope. The team is more competitive and hopefully learning how to win. Big improvement on last year. The question still remains why a team that was projected to have a top 3 offense in the NL is so useless. IMO if they dont start seeing major improvement by the end of this month you have to start looking at the hitting coach. It might just not be a fit.

I freaking hate to say it but I just donít see this group ever getting over that ďfew games to 500Ē hump. They canít string more than two wins together, and the worst part....there is ZERO sense of urgency.

On what do you base your conclusion that there is ZERO sense of urgency?
Did you believe that last night after they took 2 of 3 from the Cubs?

Dodgers hitters seem to be don’t fine with this new hitting coach. Maybe Turner Ward wasn’t the sole reason for their success last season?

I think overall the league has caught up with some of the Reds’ hitters. How they are being pitched, how they are being defended.

That’s the problem IMO plus the absence of Scooter who was one of their two best bats last year.

I don’t blame the hitting coach; but I will blame him if the guys don’t re-adjust soon and come out of it.

It's starting to look like a pattern. To me that points to a philosophy. Theres no way the league just figured out 70% of the hitters all of the sudden. Not saying I'd fire the guy but Ward needs to be feeling some heat at the least.

That assumes the players are buying into his thoughts though.

Anymore I have to wonder if the modern player does.

Nope. I think Votto, Puig, Peraza, and Winker are all well below their expected production. But your zero sense of urgency comment is false.

Call it what you want but when proven hitters go up there with the same approach, failing time after time, and make no adjustments into late May. That’s a lack of urgency.
