Peraza LF
Gray P

Randy Johnson?
Especially with injuries I think it’s time to let Winker play more against lefties.
.549 lifetime OPS against lefties for Jesse.
That said, Reds could use a RH hitting outfielder to platoon with Winker and, sometimes, spell Votto against lefties. Somebody who destroys LHP. Maybe Ervin could get there, someday.
The personnel against lefties isn’t that good and without Puig (at least on paper) even worse.

That lineup really is depressing. It only has 2 guys who I expect to be a part of the future, well 3 with Votto but no excitement there. Senzel and Suarez. We need some primo young talent to get excited about and who will be around for a while.

Winker is 7-42 with 1 BB over his last 10 starts (11 games)
Puig is banged up
Dietrich has strong platoon splits
Ervin has strong platoon splits which makes a good replacement for Puig, who isn't crushing the ball anyway.
Farmer is crushing lefties so far this year (SSS alert)
Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I feel like right now we should be trying to win as many games as possible. We can let Winker gather more experience against lefties when we are out of it.

It’s not “oh wow” but that’s his MLB career against lefties. I’d use a larger sample, but that’s it at the big league level. 122 PAs and .549 OPS. Reds also have his minor league numbers, they see him in practice, they made their decision. Winker plays sparingly against lefties.
I’d guess if it was .849 in 122 PAs he’d be playing more against lefties.

That's a nice black hole after the first 4 guys.
Really, after the first three. It’s pretty jarring to see Ervin - whose been at AAA mostly - hitting cleanup.
But some of them have done ok in the early going. Farmer seems to homer every time I watch him. Derek Johnson should have the “book” on Gio who pitched for him some of last season. Looking for a victory.

Only change I would make is Farmer at 1b and Dietrich or Van Meter at 2b. You're forced to start a lefty somewhere because of our roster, but Dietrich has proven to be better in a very small sample size that Winker or Votto who have been terrible.

Always annoys me when people call out those who say "my" or "our" team. When they take the field, the PA guy says "And now YOUR Cincinnati Reds..."
The fans pay the bills and the entire city/county subsidize the stadium.
Reds have a winnable home stand against Bucs and Nats next week. Need at least to tread water against Brewers and Cubs now, on the road. So pretty big games. Looking for a good start tonight.

I agree. Sometimes he seems to get stuck with whatever his original plan was even if it's not working. If he wants to try and get the batter to swing low and away, he'll keep throwing it there even if the batter isn't swinging.

Peraza seems to lose confidence when he slumps. Slumps tend to be long, he loses any semblance of patience.

I found it funny that Brantley was trying to make a point earlier that he believes Peraza can hit up here and didnt have time because he got out so quickly. Not that I disagree with him but some games he is just a non factor. Making 3 or 4 outs on like 5 pitches is tough to swallow.

3-0 lead in the 6th starting with a pitcher at less than 90 pitches. And this is the debate.
I don’t miss everything that is old school about baseball but this is just pathetic that it has to be discussed.
Not everyone here. Just the state of the game and WTF happened to get to this.
Speciality relievers have changed the game. The smart baseball guys figured it out and it took over.

Would be really nice to add a few here.
Dietrich hitting for Hernandez. Houser the pitcher. Eighth inning. Same score.
Grounds weakly on a 3-1 put out. Brings up top of the Reds’ order.
Senzel grounds to third.
Now Votto.

I think Joey will become a Joe Pepitone with the glove as he ages along with possibly the same hitting skills. Unfortunately

Reds leading here but really have trouble scoring on the road.
2-2 count to Votto.

I gotta tip my cap to this pitching staff. They've been legitimately lights out to this point. Kudos to them. Amir Garrett has really taken a huge step forward

Always annoys me when people call out those who say "my" or "our" team. When they take the field, the PA guy says "And now YOUR Cincinnati Reds..."
The fans pay the bills and the entire city/county subsidize the stadium.
Nothing wrong with that...
