The good news is the Reds play today. The bad news is it's day game which can mean only one thing. It's a day game.

Hoping Senzel can get it going against righties here soon. Hes struggled against them so far. I dont think that's been an issue for him in his career so I'd be surprised if it continued. This line up looks solid and if Votto and Puig can get going at all it would be pretty dang good.

The key to today's game is to pitch carefully to Hendricks. Pitch around him if need be. ;)

This year in majors...

BA .188
OBP .291
SLG .292
OPS .583

Last year he hit righties better than lefties so lets hope that starts to even out soon.

I wonder which version of Disco works today...The Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde?

I would guess Mr Hyde. Disco struggled mightily against LHH and the Cubs have some good ones. Combined with the wind blowing out to left field, it seems like a dangerous combo.

.313/.383/.651 against LHH for Disco this year.

This would be a perfect opportunity for the use of an opener.

I’m really surprised the Reds haven’t embraced the opener idea yet. They have been open to every other new idea out there, and the opener fits in with their current pitching staff.

So I’ve lost track of the roster. Bowman up Ervin down. Does that leave a 3 man bench of Casals, Peraza, Farmer? And 14 pitchers?

Puig’s effort is an imaginary construct to express frustration over his less than expected early offensive numbers. He’s coming back for his first game since damn near leaving his arm in the stands after making an all-out effort catch.

I was just thinking how the Braves constantly bring up these young kids who mash. Riley wasnt rated as highly as Nick and in the end I dont think he will be quite as good but it's crazy the difference between there young core and ours at this point.

It really is. Position player wise they have Acuna, Albies, Swanson, and Riley already up with Freeman signed long term. Then they have Pache and Waters performing in the minors, and they aren’t scared to promote quickly.
Then they have literally 10 pitchers who would be our best prospect or even major leaguer, outside of Castillo.
The Teds are worse presently and really nothing exciting at all on the horizon

I’ll take your word for it, but it came down to they had a bunch of other guys and were trying to move some money around. And I think there’s a distinction between what you describe and effort on the field, which I have not seen an issue with Puig in any game this year. He thought he fouled that pitch off. I’m not gonna flip out on that.

For the record, I think Puig’s work ethic as a Red has been excellent.

Puig’s effort is an imaginary construct to express frustration over his less than expected early offensive numbers. He’s coming back for his first game since damn near leaving his arm in the stands after making an all-out effort catch.

He’s a predictable whipping boy for this fan base.

Why the double switch? I get that Peralta would be up 2nd in the next inning but by doing the double switch they have removed the Reds most consistent hitter and made it so that the pitcher's slot is in the 7 spot for the next 5 innings with only 3 position players left on the bench.

Managers are usually reluctant to double-switch with their catchers, so that the club isn't short-handed at the position. However, David Bell has double-swiched with his catchers on occasion. (Kyle Farmer's apparent ability to function as a third catcher probably plays into his decision, as well.)
