So all 6 guys who started both games yesterday are starting again today? I guess Bell really wants to win this series. With this heat wave I’m pretty surprised.

This is baseball, not basketball or hockey. It shouldn't be a problem for these guys to play a game the day after a doubleheader.

I like Puig in the 6 hole

Yeah, he wants more lefties towards the top of the order. Dietrich is slugging .673 vs righties-- Puig is slugging .386 vs righties. Long overdue move by Bell and I'm glad he made it. I also wouldn't be opposed to dropping Senzel in the order vs righties as well. Senzel is doing great vs lefties-- .364 with .667 slugging. Vs righties-- .219 and slugging .313.

It's a good strategy. Puig on the dugout steps will allow him to get to Lyles quicker once Dietrich is beaned than if he was on deck.

And Votto has a worse batting average than 6 of the Reds in the line-up against the starter for Pitt. The other two, Iglesias has only one AB, and Senzel has not faced him.

Swear I saw him grimacing on TV after he scored the 5th run in the first game Monday. Was hoping it wasn't anything but appears to be a bit of something at least. Hopefully he'll play tomorrow but if not, with Thursday's off day, he can have a nice little break here.

Me too. Also saw him in the dugout during game 2 with some sort of hand held device rubbing it on his quad just above his knee.

We can drop the Pirates under .500 with a win today. I want to see that just as much as seeing us get to 3 games under .500. Win today and tomorrow and we tie the Pirates. I'm so glad to see Bell treat the series as a must-win series. By throwing his best pitchers yesterday, he tried his best to get a 2-game jump heading into today.

Hopefully, Senzel counters it by getting a Walk in one of his first three Plate Appearances. You have to give young players the opportunities to fail at what they are inexperienced at in order to gain the experience necessary to become successful at it. You alsonhave to caution against putting them in a failing situation for too long in a row before giving them a break to rework their approach to the situation they are learning.

He gets to think about what he's doing right. For a guy like Votto, that's a good thing. Votto doesn't get "hot" or "cold". For him, it's always technique and strategy.

From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Adam Frazier is out of the Pirates' lineup on Tuesday due to a bruised foot.

Frazier got hit in the foot on Monday and had it wrapped in the visitors clubhouse at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday afternoon. Kevin Newman will start at second base and bat leadoff versus the Reds.

A lot of work and sacrifice went into developing Duvall into a player good enough to trade for a Sims. He wasn't good enough to trade for a prospect, but a semi-prospect who is more major league ready was a commodity worthy of Duvall's value at the time.

A 4 run lead should be enough to let Sims stay in the game in the 6th and 7th so long as he doesn't allow more than one base-runner on.

6 run lead should allow him at least 2 runners on!

This may be a kneejerk thing too but I get the feeling Dietrich’s performance is more sustainable than Scooter’s. Not that he’s gonna continue to OPS 1.000, but Dietrich has always had great numbers outside Miami. This isn’t particularly surprising that he’s hitting well, just to the degree which he is.

Strikes Out Looking
05-28-2019, 08:20 PM
So I look for Puig to be moved in the next month, Winker will end up back in RF (I know his defense is questionable) and Dietrich will get lots of starts in LF, with Peraza getting some as well.

Sims will likely go back down until Roark is traded between now and the deadline. He'll be back before the end of the year. I also could see Disco being moved.

I think the Reds offense is now back to where it should be and I see the FO trying to balance being on the periphery of the pennant race with continuing to manage the end of the rebuild -- I also think that of all the players on one year deals that will be on the Reds in 2020, Iglesias and Dietrich are the front runners.
