Me thinks it’s stupid to give a player a day off after he had half the team’s total bases the day before.

The Reds have lost three in a row and have days off on Monday and Thursday. Tuesday and Wednesday they can take advantage of the DH spot to get guys some rest. Today they should be playing the best they have to try to get a win. Plenty of time for Rest this week.

Rookie center fielder Nick Senzel will likely receive a day off Sunday.

José Peraza started at shortstop in place of Iglesias on Saturday and Josh VanMeter received a start in left field. Puig has a career-low .211 batting average and .256 on-base percentage, but Bell said Saturday’s lineup had more to do with bench players than Puig’s performance.

“We feel like we have to keep Peraza (sharp), he hasn’t played short hardly at all,” Bell said. “We can’t forget about him. He has to stay sharp at that position. VanMeter hasn’t had many opportunities to start. It’s more about getting those two guys an opportunity.”

Peraza played shortstop in the eighth inning Friday and made a throwing error while trying to complete a potential double play. It was only the second time he played shortstop in a game since May 4.

“Coming off the bench is not an easy role,” Bell said of Peraza. “It’s something that he hasn’t done in his career. It’s my job as the manager to make sure those guys stay ready and they get enough playing time to where they are able to come into a day and start a game or come into the middle of a game.

“It’s their responsibility to be ready too, but it’s also my responsibility to make sure they are getting enough playing time to keep them effective.”

Entering Saturday, Senzel had played every inning since his Major League debut on May 3.

“We do have the off days, but sometimes it’s just good to sit and watch a game too,” Bell said. “As tough as it is to take him out of the lineup, it’s important for him to have a day like that.”

Nola has a BABIP of .343 against him. If the Reds don’t try to swing for the fences every at bat, they will break out of their slump.
Also, the first and sixth innings are bugaboos for Nola.

I tend to agree with you, but in Winker's defense (no pun intended) he played better defense in CF earlier in the year than he has at either corner OF spot.

Winker hits a ground ball to the right side.

I dont think he will be an all star but he has been pretty solid offensively and will fill in OK for now. Aquino, Longhi, O' Grady could be worth a look as well.

It would certainly be watchable for the rest of the season. Spots need to open up in AAA for Friedl, and evetually Trammell, anyway. Need to to see what these guys have at this peak point in their careers. The spikes are usually pretty good and unpredictable for a player's peak years.

I'm very disappointed with Puig and don't think there's any reason why he should be a Red beyond this year but man, this place just wants blood. Again, remember Matt Kemp? Remember when releasing him was this great win for accountability and how everything was going to be good now?

People didn't want to deal with a revolving door of AAA jabronis and wanted major league talent. And the minute the major league talent slumps (which sucks, but **** happens) they start calling for the jabronis again. Can't we at least aim higher?

This is what fans can do. I haven't given a penny to this org in over 3 maybe 4 years. Not going to buy merch, not going to see them in person, no MLB. TV, nothing. This seems to have spurned some moves this offseason so hopefully they will do even more this coming Trade deadline and offseason but time is running out. I don't think he is a player you necessarily build around. He is a useful player, and is an asset as long as he is not making too much money, but I would move him before he gets expensive.

But sure they quit on Bell already. Of course. Barely first week of June.

How old are some of you posters? Not old enough to understand the ebb and flow of a season at all really.
Why follow this sport? Follow football. That would work better with the life and death mentality of every series. Heck every Game really.

The 1-8 start just has made any losing streak of more than 3-4 games the complete breakdown of any sense of rationality.

What you can get worried about is the state of the farm and how little pitching there is. That’s something to get worked up over.
