I assume they are now starting to give Votto more frequent days off, especially a day game after a night game.

He certainly yelled loud enough that he has to back it up today or forever shut his trap.

Votto has a .200 BA against Cole lifetime. He should sit.

Cole probably isn't someone to face and have success against the first time. Peraza has faced him only five times, but he does have two hits.

Amen to that. And the day after Farmer saved the game with his HR.

And Bell just stated that he needed to get Farmer more PT. Today was a crystal-clear opportunity for that.

He wore himself out with all those silly, upper-cut, chop-chop, practice swings.

From C. Trent

There's got to be at least 30-40 people who have become Robert Stephenson fans for life today. The last 15-20 minutes, it's been pouring and he's been signing autographs, taking pictures and shaking hands for all comers in the pouring rain. It's been cool to watch. Good on him.

Shoeless Jeff
06-19-2019, 12:28 PM
Votto still didn't look like he is running real well on those doubles, so probably a mix of just rest and partly precautionary, particularly if it is real wet.

Could we possibly, just maybe, string together a 4 game win streak against teams not from Miami?

You know until some posted that the other day, I was have trouble remembering if the Reds had even had a 3 game win streak.

One step forward, one back... rinse repeat.

reds had chances every inning to score, but never could (except for the puig blast). not going to beat a good team doing that nonsense.

once again the bats fall asleep when mahle pitches. although, what a stupid decision to throw that pitch on an 0-2 count to brantley, who can't hit a fastball these days.

I agree.
Pitchers who get beat like this on 0-2 pitches. 2 outs. Even if itís an issue with no scoring runs for them still tend to be the ones that find ways to lose games like this.

I was screaming for Bell to take Mahle out before Brantley. Any chance that was Bellís way of showing him up, letting him face a top ten in MLB lefty in GAB with the game in the balance? (That almost certainly was the game right there). The odds had to have been about as high in Brantleyís favor as he could ask for.

Alright man, we get it. And I actually agree with you, I prefer the Captain Hook routine to the "gut feeling" about how good a starter looks. But if they lose this one there's still about 30 more that bother me more than this one against a World Series caliber team, and here's still another two innings to go.

I'd say Mahle deserves zero blame. 2 runs in 7 IP is doing your job 100 times out of 100. Now, the fact that he gave up a two out HR in the 6th after complaining about not being allowed to pitch deep into games...it's a bit of hoisting with your own petard, sure.

They're down one run to possibly the best team in the AL who had their second best starter, an All-Star last year, on the mound. I hear that for sure. The thing that gets me about today is the Reds had a lot of baserunners and failed to come through. Yes, Cole is very good but if they got the guys on then they should be able to come up with one hit in one of those innings and they didnt. Of course that will happen in the course of a season but it happens to this team way too much so it's going to stick out a lot more. Cole was good but Mahle was better and the team is losing. This is why you have to have some speed and/or some guys with bat control in a lineup. Especially one lacking as much talent as ours. It’s how you wind up with 8 hits, 3 walks and 1 run to show for it. 14 lob, 0-7 with risp.
