i also like that david bell is not a fan of having "sunday get-away-day" lineups. he gives starters certain amount of days off, but he's not going to go out of his way to start phil ervin in a game like this. past managers seemed to be a big fan of the sunday "b team" lineups.

Very much agree....nowadays it seems there aren’t enough positional roster spots to screw the lineup up too bad

A Milwaukee team that has been in first or second place in the division pretty much all season and is at home where they have a winning percentage of over .600. They were struggling on the road and on the west coast, which is hard on most every team.

And an Astros team that is playing on the road against a team one win shy of 50. So it ain't like the Yankees are chopped liver.

2-3 weeks ago, probably one week ago we would have taken a split with Milwaukee and been reasonably satisfied. The only reason it kind of sucks is we won the first two.

It certainly warrants a case study as to what he is doing. A post on Twitter put up some numbers showing his chase rate is the highest of his career, contact rate the lowest, swing strike rate the highest...maybe he is just selling out. Someone needs to figure it out and end this madness.

Starting with the Texas series there were 21 games before the AS break. I thought we needed to go 13-8 to give us a shot at a WC spot. If we lose today we will be 6-4 so far so still on track to get there. Even if we come up a little short we could go on a Run with SG and AW coming back. The downside is we have a lot of free agents this year and we may need to sell. Would be tough to hang on to SG, YP, AW, JI, and DH and then lose them all to FA and not make the playoffs. We’re in a tough spot. Hopefully we will win out to the ASG and be in a good position for the 2nd half.

Yes, if you are a "get the pitch count up guy"! But that is usually if its the starter you want to break through against. In this case, no.
