Is it unusual to schedule a 2 game trip on the west coast? I know these are inter-league games but it seems like the MLB schedule usually has at least 2 stops on a west coast trip.

Yes, the Reds have a pretty weird schedule this year. Including two Friday off-days and two home games in Mexico

I like the personnel in the lineup, though I would make some slight adjustments to the batting order:

Senzel cf
J. Iglesias ss
Votto dh
Suarez 3b
Puig rf
Ervin lf
Casali c
Farmer 1b
Peraza 2b

RiverfrontRed

Not a fan of Ervin at this point. He needs to get on base tonight. Farmer in the 9-hole looks appealing though.

Let's pretend: If Scooter was activated today, how would he fit in this lineup? Benched because he's lefty? DH instead of Votto? 2nd base instead of Peraza? He had a .774 OPS last year against lefties.

I mean ultimately the result is probably the same and that certainly wasn't an ordinary play, but a Puig throw certainly could have had a better chance.

Mahle served it up on a tee for La Stella, though he was getting squeezed in that AB to kind of force his hand. All comes back to the need for robo umps.

it was soooo out of character for welsh. makes me wonder if he received some heat for making some very minor criticisms of puig earlier this season. just so weird. as you said, that is the precise type of play where an outfielder needs to be backing up his fellow outfielder. but welsh said like 4x that it was not on puig. lol.

yes, in all seriousness, i like having peraza as a utility player. i think the reds should keep him, for two main reasons: the aforementioned reason that he's a good utility player that can play 2b/ss/cf/lf, and can hit a little bit. also, because there isn't a team that would give up much for him, so really no reason for the reds to deal him. unless something shocking would happen and a team would give up something of clear value for him.

I think it was something like India + Peraza + Santillan, I basically figured the Marlins might want a pre-arb guy with upside like Peraza who they could play at SS considering they were (and still are) sending a middling journeyman like Miguel Rojas out there.

man, because of india and santillan, i was probably one of those idiots saying "hell no" to that trade idea for realmuto.

I bought the plastic batting helmet version of that one and put some stickers on the back for 29. Used to wear it occasionally while batting in our old neighborhood backyard baseball games.

I had a bunch of those back in the early 80's when I was a kid. (Didn't have the Angels, though.)

I had the Reds, Astros, Braves, Expos, Yankees, Brewers, Royals, and the Columbus Clippers. I also swiped my brother's Pirates and Indians helmets.

Not a complete excuse but Mahle gets little run support, has pitched mostly road games, so his W-L is a bit deceptive.

Tonight he fell behind hitters in that second inning and had to come in with it. Ump has a smallish strike zone, but no excuse for grooving one to the eighth hitter.

We all feel your pain but how many Chris Sale type pitchers are there? I'm trying to think of all these ace type pitchers you seem to think are being developed by every other team and I can't. Most teams aren't doing much better then the Reds are on that front. A lot of the great pitchers in the league aren't even with the team that drafted them and many didnt have all that much success until they were moved a few times.

His fastball up in the zone is his best pitch, so he throws it all the time. Rattled, not rattled, happy, sad. Medium. He’s effective up there but it is a spot that can result in long balls. Could be why he’s a #4 pitcher and not a #1.

But he’d be a lot better if he ever got runs to work with.

Yeah it obviously wouldn't have gotten that done, we know that now. Glad you're keeping me in line here, boss man.

Come on, you were bragging that you had a trade worked out for Realmuto with Peraza and no one else had your great foresight. More than likely, your trade proposal was ignored or only critical people responded, just like when I made a trade proposal a few weeks ago.. That's just message board life.

The .Reds got SS Iglesis this year as a starter off the junk heap. Very true. But it does not happen very often. I guess the last time the Reds had pulled it off was Gomes? Maybe I am forgetting something, but it's not very common for a quality SS to come off of waivers.. Note that Iglesis got a minor league contract (or something like that).. His OPS the last 3 seasons was 643, 657, and 699.. If you are the Reds front office predicted this offensive upswing from him, then I give you (or the front office) all the credit in the world, but I am guessing that most fans figured that Iglesis was in camp as a utility man or depth guy. Iglesis may still crash to earth offensively this year. I hope not, but it's possible. But yes, a great sign, but did you actualy say "Great, now that we have Iglesis, we can shop Peraza?" I don't know.. but if you did, then yes, take a bow.

If I suggested this winter that we could have gotten Realmuto for Schelber, Ervin, Finnegan, and Rob Stephenson.. that really doesn't give me the right to say "I told you so" now.

Ump giving Heaney all the corners.

Casali got to first on a tight 2-2 pitch being a ball

Reds are getting on but not getting it done

Are you claiming the Phillies would have taken your offer? No way. (You may not be, I’m quite confused)

No, my point is, they wouldn't have taken that offer. Just like they would not have taken Tom's offer. Thus, no bragging rights for me in that situation.

The Realmuto thing was just for context man, I was not "bragging" that I had the perfect deal figured out. I'm not taking any bows, nor am I in anyway upset, like you apparently are that an idea of yours got ignored. I'm simply saying for all the "trade Peraza" posts there are now, it was not being said much, if at all, in the offseason. And that would have been the perfect time for it.

I think Peraza got messed up when Senzel attacked the pop up at full speed. He didn’t want another collision and figured Senzel had it. They have to work that play out, can’t happen.

Yea, you were bragging, but I will let it go, even though it is my job to keep you in line.
MLB teams are not dumb. Everyone knows what Peraza is.. He's a marginal starter at best. Not that great on defense.. There really is no "sell high" on him.. He was sold high to the Reds when he was a prospect brimming with potential.. Last winter, he was already exposed. Again, if someone said last winter "Sell high on Schebler" , there really wasn't much to sell high on.. he was also perceived as a marginal starter at best.
