Bel needs to show he’s more flexible. His stubbornness is part of the reason we got in such a big hole. Puig and Votto weren’t performing at all yet they were always dead smack in the meat of the lineup. It cost us games.
Move Scooter back while he’s getting his timing back, then bump him back up later.

I'm a big scooter fan and I'm not giving up on him, but I agree that he needs to bat further down in line up. Puig should be batting 4th the way he's hitting. I'd probably make a couple of other changes in line up also.

Puig in center would seem to make sense. He has the speed. Maybe Bell knows something we don't or maybe Puig doesn't feel comfortable in cf. Balls come off the bat different.

I just think he is back too soon.

He’s not back too soon, he just needs to adjust to MLB pitching for awhile. He hasn’t faced it in almost a full year.

The whole Scooter thing is pretty funny IMO. Prominent Reds slumped their way through April and May. Reds were patient. Yet after a week there’s now a backlash against playing Gennett.

I don’t blame the Reds on this, this time of year, if he’s truly healthy, you want him re-adjusting to big league pitching. In hindsight if they knew he would take awhile to get going, they might have left him down in AAA through the ASB.

My only concern with Gennett is whether he is truly fully recovered. We’ve seen so many guys come back prematurely and that can be a very serious mistake.

One of my indelible memories from Riverfront was watching the Reds play the Giants around 1989-90ish. Kevin Mitchell hit 2 HRs in this game, including one against Rob Dibble -- PULLED to left-center, no less -- that never got much higher than 20 feet off the ground. It was an absolute laser. I wish we had the exit velo and launch angle numbers for it back then. It hit the old metal walling well beyond the fences and made this "boom" noise. My friend and I just looked at each other and gave Mitchell an ovation. I never saw anyone else turn on one from Dibble in his prime that hard.

Exactly. The ball just came off his bat...different. When he was raking for the Reds in '94, the balls that he hit would get to the deep green seats or the yellows as fast as you can imagine. And the occasional red seat home run. God could he hit a ball hard.

What’s hard about it is that it’s not the reason for rehab. Teams don’t generally wait for strong minor league numbers to bring a guy up. They use the rehab stint to make sure he’s healthy and get some game action.

Gennett could bat .600 against AAA pitching and it would insure nothing at the big league level.

The only question - and it is a question - is whether he’s truly physically able to play big league ball. I don’t know the answer.

The great American pastime: Complaining about umpires.. That's as old as the game itself.

I generally complain less about ump's since they added the strike zone to the broadcasts because it shows how often they get it right. Most umps are remarkably accurate, maybe missing a few on the margins. The HP ump tonight has been missing pitches 4 inches off the plate and called a pitch that was almost down the middle a ball. I'd guess he's gotten at least 10 pitches wrong tonight

I agree...but some night no ump can make fans happy no matter where the ball gets thrown.. Since the ump gets the call and we don't it doesn't really matter..

He did have about three months off to heal. But if he’s still uncomfortable he shouldn’t be playing - at any level.

You're never going to be perfect with a groin injury. It's like a hamstring or plantar fasciaitis. It's always susceptible to being aggravated while it takes years to get it back to close to normal. But for first couple of years, you just have to manage it as best you can.

I would have rather seen Sonny get the shutout, but I'll settle for the win 100 times out of 99 times..

Hmmm Yelich didn’t even PH in a close game late on. Wonder if something could also keep him out tomorrow? Good win. Need the series win tomorrow.
