DeSclafani currently ranks 77th out of the top 150 starters in ERA for the season.

He's at a 106 ERA+, which means he's slightly better than league average.

In short, if DeSclafani is your team's worst starter, you have a very good starting staff.

The 1939 Reds were 97-57, and NL Champions. They were swept, 4-0, by the Yankees in the World Series.

On this date in 1939, the Reds defeated the Cardinals 7-4 at Crosley Field. The Reds lineup that evening:

Billy Werber 3b
Lonny Frey 2b
Nino Bongiovanni rf
Frank McCormick 1b
Ernie Lombardi c
Harry Craft cf
Bud Hafey lf
Billy Myers ss
Paul Derringer p

Werber in front of Frey?

Fer Chrissakes, McCormick's your best hitter, McKechnie! Why are you screwin' him over with Billy Werber?

And don't get me started on Nino Bongiovanni! He must have had a daguerreotype of McKechnie's wife or something!

Just don't understand why you pitch to him there. He was 3-3 and you have to play for no runs. Just one run beats you the way the game is going so putting him on is irrelevant. Just don't give him anything to hit.

I mean they have, just didn't work out

OK, Thom.

That’s Thim.... btw

But thats not how I expected the run to score.

Their Catcher 7th has more hits than the entire Reds team.

What a "give in" pitch. Awful.

The dude hit a pop up to right field and it went out. Really hard to blame the pitcher on this one. For whatever reason the opposing teams seem better at utilizing GABP better then the Reds do.

Once again the Reds bats fall asleep after scoring in the first. There cant be a team worse then them when it comes to that. Puts a whole lot of pressure on the pitching to be perfect.

Too much plate, up in middle of zone, and outside to a RHB who can poke that thing out. Just not a competitive pitch.

Just looking over our 2010-15 first round picks and we have 2 middle relievers, a possible fourth outfielder and another OF who can’t hit left handed pitching.

Fans here never want to credit the opposing hitter. He could have tried to pull it but he didnt. It was 97 up and away and he hit it where it was pitched. Not sure what people here expect. Not every pitch is going to be perfect and unhittable otherwise no one would ever score.

I don’t see what could change unless a couple of them just get hot. We don’t have anybody in the minors who is ready. We don’t have anybody that anybody wants so we can’t make a trade. I think this is just who we are.

I know the minors aren’t great right hot but come on, they can make trades. The bigger issue is where, and if they’re willing to be aggressive.

Whatever. I dont think they should do anything besides selling anyways but they have assets for sure. I get no one wants to hear that but you have to have an eye towards the future. Sure they are in the race but this is not a playoff caliber team IMO and they have a buttload of free agents. They should capitalize on the fact that it is a seller's market and move Roark, Puig, and any other rental with any value at all. They can still resign them in the off season with all the money freeing up if they so choose.

I agree, we need to sell and build for the future. We probably have less than a 5% chance of getting a WC so I wouldn’t trade any controllable assets.

I think the earlier poster mis-identified which team has the scrubs...

Beiber is very good, but this Reds offense looks the same against any pitching, even the guys with 5+ eras.

It really wasn’t a bad game up until the end when things went downhill. All teams have plenty of games like this in a 162 game schedule. The only thing ya can do now is come back tomorrow and try to split the series.

The bullpen needs help and there's no 2b or catcher on the team that can hit, they're better off selling off the rentals that will walk anyway
