I agree in this case. I only like it when we have an OB challenged lead-off type hitting 9th. Hamilton was a natural. If Peraza was in there, him too. Not anybody else really.

Can't remember the last time we came out of the All-Star break on a roll (5 in a row or 8 of 10).

Would surely live to see it happen.

As far as the Golf Thread, we need to start nailing Birdies and toss in an Eagle or two, while avoiding Sub-Par Golf at all costs.

Don't know if we were in the middle of a hole, but winning 7 of 10 to begin the 2nd Half is absoulutely critical.

Can't rememember the last time the Clubhouse had a sense of urgency after the break. Always seems like they are more anxious to collect their paychecks.

I think they need to get two late inning guys along with Garrett back and a rebound from Iglesias to have any chance. The bullpen and all the pitching changes were the magic that helped elevate this staff so far from the ruins, but the clock has struck midnight. Hernandez is used up, I agree. Lorenzen and Hughes need to be the multi-innings early game options and everybody else needs to be better than them IMO. I'd have left Gray in there myself. I don't trust any of these guys right now

of course the continued lack of offense was the primary issue.....but that can't be controlled from the bench.....but bringing in your worst pitcher in a high leverage situation in a game that is extremely important to determine the direction of the team in the 2nd half is something that can be controlled from the bench.

Hernadez vs. left-handed batters this year ... 14.1 IP, 8.79 ERA, .349 BA against. 3 HRs allowed.
No pitcher on the entire Reds staff, starter or reliever, fares worse against LH batters than Hernandez.

So ... Let's stay with Hernandez vs. two lefties when we're 5 outs away from a victory.

Honestly, statistically speaking, he was the absolute worst option vs. lefties. Bowman is even better.

Yeah this year has been about as bad as it gets. Been out of last place for like 2 days in 5 years and people here think we should be buyers. The offense is horrific. Votto k ing with a runner on 3rd and 1 out is this years offense in 1 at bat. These guys just don’t show up in big/pressure situations. Castillo has been elite, but has blown two 4 run leads. That can’t happen with this roster and team. Not if they want to compete. Denzel hasn’t gotten a hit in July. Our top performers Iglesias and Puig are gone after this year.
Even worse than that is the farm system. There isn’t one player that I’m confident in to be a difference maker. Not one. The ones that matter have regressed or got hurt. Or both. If you want to really see how bad it is, the two guys traded to LA would be our top performing legit(too 12) prospects.
Gray is on a tear. 7ks in 7 inn of 1 hit ball tonight. ERA down to 2.14. 80 ks in his last 65 innings. Mid 1 ERA.

Okay this is not the first time you've used this "hated rival" line to describe The Cleveland Indians.

Am I missing something here? Sure they are a "natural rival" due to being in the same state but I've never really felt any animosity toward that organization and I almost always root for them when they make the postseason.

I can think of many, many teams that I'd consider a "hated rival" way more than The Indians.

Guys, Bell is not a moron. Neither is Johnson who participated in the decision. They knew the numbers everyone is citing. The Reds have a decision to make the next 10-15 days. Are they buyers and what are they buying? This was a test. A test of whether the 4 days rest was enough to reset Hernandez to what he was earlier in the season, our most dependable late inning reliever. Now they know. Now we all know. Hernandez is done. The rest didnít help. He canít be counted on. If they buy, itís gotta be bullpen help.

The rest didn’t help. He can’t be counted on. If they buy, it’s gotta be bullpen help.
I'm not saying you're wrong but it's a bad way to "test" someone when you're looking up at 4 other teams in the standings.

They need every single win they can get. They can't afford to be dropping games in order to "test" guys or to send messages to the front office, another theory that has been thrown out there.

Letting Votto pitch would have been a better option.

True, but this franchise has never been buyers and is starving for a post-all-star "attempt" at becoming aggressive.

That they tried one more time to salvage an arm that was done (chasing past results) at the cost of destruction to fan and player momentum that the first half built, goes in line with what I, as a fan, have come to expect from current Ownership. Same old, same old. Collect the checks. Return crap in exchange.

Not trying to get in the way of a good rant, but we are talking about Coors Field here. Sometimes the ball has been known to fly out of this place at a moment's notice. It happens.

Seems like maybe a good situation to put your extreme ground ball pitcher in there instead of an extreme fly ball pitcher who has given up 10 runs in his last 5 appearances.

Now I can subscribe to that.

But there still is no guarantee. Hughes has been shaky lately, too.

Don't really know who you were talking to, but it might be a good idea to check the rudeness at the door. Folks around here are free to make comments without being told to "zip it", especially by someone who waited until after the game was over to make his first comment.
