I think there’s something else to it. Two years ago he was the best hitter in the NL and now he’s almost a replacement level player. I just don’t see how he has declined that fast. I think it could be his approach at the plate and what he is trying to do. maybe the shift got in his head. Bryce Harper has kind of gone backward too.

He has a chance to rebound and be useful, but I am sure he's no longer viewed as a potential star or OBP machine.

The fact that through 222 games and 768 plate appearances he’s not even a half win player might have something to do with it. Another reason could be that he’s so poor at all the other facets of the game that he would probably have to OPS somewhere in the neighborhood of .900 to be a 1 win player might be another reason.

You want the Reds to be a winning club? They need to aim higher than Jesse Winker.

No I wouldn’t go that far. He’s a 4th OFer. A good platoon piece. Ideally a DH. If he ever learns to hit lefties he’d actually be an excellent DH or perhaps be hidden at first base.
