Dietrich is probably still nursing his knee, and Scooter likely will get days off on a semiregular basis because of his groin.

Guess I’m not savvy on the languages our 4th and 5th string catchers can handle. Lavarnway has 3 fingers and 2 HR, double and a walk.....so he’s never caught a non-English speaking pitcher?

I mean what’s a guy gotta do to be in the lineup the next day? Farmer was clearly concussed and left in the game...this guy is fine and riding cloud 9 with 8 total bases, a key walk and isn’t in there? These managers just over think the easy things.

If you aren’t Votto/Puig/Suarez and you have a huge game....you won’t be playing the next day. We’ll find a Dusty Baker reason.

I’m just growing tired of obvious things not being obvious anymore. Didn’t mean to snarkle but these things just make me shake my head.

Suarez was stupid and selfish and got tossed in the 1st inning....Any thought of not starting him today I wonder? Did Iglesias get talked to? Wonder if any discussions about Votto playing 40 feet off first have been had? (To be clear I don’t blame Votto but I think it’s a ridiculous defensive plan)...anyone ever ask why they didn’t review Iglesias tag in that 10 run inning that would’ve made it a 6 run inning?

None of that stuff takes anything of any talent ...I don’t get it. Maybe most of things were discussed, I feel most of them weren’t though.

To me this team for 20 years has let the veterans or stars get away with whatever...and it just continues. If Suarez can’t get a good read on the ball while being a baserunner....do they take him and work on it? If VanMeter goes 3-4 with 2 doubles does he play tomorrow. I think both answers are no.

Last night’s loss was ridiculous...and to the Cardinals. Seems like a lot of people don’t care to lose because they aren’t going to the playoffs anyways and we can think of all our players to trade away.

I don’t care about 2021 or 2022, I wanna beat the Cardinals tonight, especially if up 7.

Pretty sure I made this post in 2016 not caring about 2019.....here we are!

Right. The powder blue Cardinals road uniforms were pullovers, not button ups, and they had "Cardinals" in script on the front, not "St. Louis".

They had never worn these in the past.

I think his point was play the hot hand. Which makes perfect sense. David Bell has the tendency to sit players after good games. If a player is hot especially with this offense you ride it until it is over. He very well could of went 0-4 with 4 ks. It really does not matter, the point is Bell has no clue how to manage a team and it shows

Unless the players all played significantly better I doubt it would be much different.

It all starts with the players. Last winter, the Reds went out and got some players, which was good, but still went on the cheap and picked up Duke, Dietrich, J. Iglesias. Roark has done a good job for a #3 or 4 starter, and Gray may be an unexpected steal, but the Reds didn't get the impact player or players needed to make a major difference. Until they do, you can expect things to stay about the way they are. To the Front Office, STAY OUT OF THE DUMPSTER.

Now back to the game.

Joey seems to be reverting to his earlier batting style. Last two at-bats have been outs but, he's hit the ball hard. I like it.

Man on third, one out, for Suarez and Puig. Need the insurance.

Suarez gets ahead and then a free pass. First and third for Puig.

Puig, you showed us you’re a star last time. Now be a superstar.

Ok, Puig, you’re only a star. C’mon Van Meter. Lines out, ninth inning, Raisel, no doubt.

Hate to say it, but Cards playing fundamentally sound baseball. They managed that situation quite well.

But Reds still leading them 3-2, so let’s finish them off!

Lorenzen still in there, ninth inning, surprise.

That pace of play crap is just that. My philosophy is if it's too slow, then don't go. I don't care if the game is 2 hrs. or 4 hrs. It's baseball.

Strikeout O’Neill, nice pitch Lorenzen. One down.

Dunno.

Save Iglesias until tomorrow?

Lorenzen is strong, hasn’t pitched as much as he should have recently?

Two down for Lorenzen.

A 9 inning game that clocks in at 2 hours and 40 minutes. Yep, Thom, an unbearably tedious slog that proves just how much you suffer for your art.

[I must admit that I wasn't following along with the thread, but I appreciated that tonight somehow turned into a "Pick on Thom (even more than usual)" night. When Thom told the story of passing on a game of golf with Neil Armstrong, and Welsh and Day laid into him with impersonations of Thom's own alleged catchphrases was absolutely delightful.]

Good win. Good team win. Nearly everyone pitched in. Big game by Vanmeter.

I want to credit Suarez for his good baserunning tonight. On that scorcher by Puig he scored from first ...had a great secondary lead, jump and was flying like Griffey in 95 ALDS to score.

Great seeing Senzel pinch run

I was thinking mid 70’s to early 80’s....like 76-84

But why would you want him to, when there are better options?

Also, I want my last two catchers to get rest on days they don't have to start behind the plate, especially on oppressively hot days like these.

I simply wanted him rewarded for his historic game with another start.

It wasn't those uniforms. Tonight's Cardinals powder blues are "faux throwbacks". They may have been inspired by the 1976-84 road unis, but they aren't the same. The real powder blue uniforms were pullovers (not button ups), and had script "Cardinals" on the front (not script "St. Louis").

Yes. The 1976-84 Cardinals wore the powder blue pullover road uniforms. This was the uniform worn by the 1982 World Champions.

In 1985, they changed the road uniform to a gray version of the powder blues, and wore them through 1991. This was the uniform worn in the 1985 and 1987 World Series. (Vince Coleman was a rookie in 1985.)

In 1992, the Cards went to a button-up version of both the home and road uniforms, and introduced the navy blue road cap.

For a whole lot of reasons!

A) Coleman never wore a powder blue Cardinals uniform.

B) The uniforms they wore tonight weren't the powder blues they wore, 1976-84.

Listening to the extra innings show on WLW with Chick Ludwick comes almost as close to torture as listening to Tracey Jones.

At least Chick talks about the game, too bad his knowledge of baseball goes to the wayside and he feels the need to parrot the rants of Marty or Thom.

He could be tolerable if he'd just be himself instead of repeating Marty's rants and trying to copy Ken Brio with the old music stuff. Be yourself Chick! It would work a lot better.
It's obvious you're a life long Reds fan, go with that and let it roll.
