Aquino is in the lineup tonight. He did play in one game for the Reds last season. Also I thought VanMeter was going to get playing time at 2nd? I guess not tonight anyway.

Also note the game time, 7:20 PM. The Braves always have to be different on the game time. Goes back to the Turner days when their home games started at 7:40 pm.

I merged the two threads. Looks like Tom beat me by a few seconds.

The one thing I read lead me to believe he was going to play no matter what. I may have read too much into it. I have no problem with platooning. I think its the way to go with the vast majority of players.

This year against lhp.

Vanmeter - .222 .462 .333 .795
Peraza - .277 .329 .400 .729

Peraza career vs lhp - .297 .331 .404 .736

Very small sample size with Vanmeter. Average low but obp is excellent.

VanMeter killed LHP in AAA this year to the tune of an 1.150 ops in 76 PA. I'm tired of Peraza taking ab's from better players, and I hope we move him this off season.

I don't completely disagree. I think Vanmeter is the real deal. On the other hand Peraza would be an excellent player off the bench especially considering his versatility. He could also go back to ss if the Reds decide not to sign Iglesias, until we are able to find a reincarnated Barry Larkin. Lol.

I think I would have rather had Winker in there over a guy who's had 1 ab in the big leagues, which was a so. I could be wrong and Aquino has the game of his life. I'm rooting for him.

This is because we were denied the "where is Aquino" posts due to Aquino being in the lineup. We had to reposition that pointless anger towards something else, so now it's that VanMeter, who had started 7 of the last 8 games, is sitting against a lefty.

Yes, he's going to break Cal Ripken Jr's. record. Of course not. But the previous commenter did probably hear this or read the article. The article is headlined: "Josh VanMeter to play EVERY DAY for the Reds". With the GM saying that he wants to see what he can do on a daily basis. Most people would find it humorous (or at least ironic) that the day after this statement and article that the guy is on the bench. That's all.

I don't see a big issue with complainers unless it's all someone does. Half the comments during the game in this game thread are going to be someone complaining about something. Just the way it is. Where would this country be be if Americans didn't complain about taxation without representation.

Off talk a touch but yeah it’s not really any deal a guy gets a start off after playing 7 of 8....but at what point does it convert? VanMeter hot as fire and looks locked in gets days off.....but say Puig who was CLEARLY off at the plate and 0-15 and struggling some for two weeks and even looking like he needed a day off.....never got one?

That’s what confuses me. I’m glad he was very good from mid May to the ASB....but why no day off ever? He literally went from the guy I trusted most to the guy I trusted the least. Why didn’t he get a day off? Why not Votto? Because he was HOF caliber for many years from 2010-2017? I want Votto in there everyday and even though sometimes he’s playing because of his past greatness.....but has he not shown any signs of needing a day off every now and then?

It’s not maddening or frustrating but it doesn’t make any sense to me. Seems weird to give the hot bats rest when others may be struggling and needing a day....but they are established stars or veteran players. This has nothing to do with past performance....we know that Suarez is going to produce and Votto is going to get on base and we know VanMeter and Ervin are what they are but sometimes guys like Steve Pearce lead a team of stars to better things.....if given the chance, regardless of age, past seasons, where drafted...hot is hot. But that seems to carry zero weight whereas past greatness, expectations and which hand that releases the ball.

All are factors of different weight but not all get looked at I feel.

Again, not mad (I’m mad I can’t watch on tv [emoji35])...I just want a win.

bigfoot52
08-01-2019, 05:48 PM
The same can be said about Phil Ervin. He's been white hot over the past month and has gotten 4 plate appearances in the last 7 days.

Early in the thread there was a question about odd start times in Atlanta. Braves moved their start times back when they moved from downtown (Turner Field) to the 'burbs (SunTrust soon to be Truist - ugh). The rationale, at least publicly:

They were moving the stadium much closer to the geographic center of the fan base in the metro region - those folks would be much closer to home when the games end.

What they didn't say is that because they have nowhere near the amount of parking or any access to MARTA like they did at Turner Field, they need all of the corporate folks to leave their office megaplexes at the end of the workday to open up parking spaces in the private decks all over the area for people coming to games.

Oh, and they also put the stadium at an even worse spot for traffic (anything on the north side of town) than where they were.

I don't hear anyone complaining that Bell isn't in the dugout. I'm concerned the suspension could prevent him from making history...

From the WSJ:

The good news for Bell is that with two months left in the season, there’s still plenty of time for him to make history. In fact, if he tries hard enough, he could even set an all-time record for ejections. Nobody has ever been ejected more than 11 times in a season, an honor held by John McGraw (1905), Dahlen (1911) and Bobby Cox (2001), the true ejection king: Cox was tossed from 158 regular-season games in his Hall-of-Fame career.

He had about a month or maybe a bit longer where he was hitting the hell out of the ball then just fell right off the cliff again, but his arm in RF never fell off the cliff. His arm saved a bunch of runs from scoring. I'd love if Aquino came right out to gun down anyone trying to score on him.. Somehow though I'm sure anyone rounding 3rd will try to test him until proven otherwise. They'll all want to see if the scouting reports are right or not..

His arm saved a bunch of runs from scoring. I'd love if Aquino came right out to gun down anyone trying to score on him.. Somehow though I'm sure anyone rounding 3rd will try to test him until proven otherwise. They'll all want to see if the scouting reports are right or not..

He was my favorite player...I never cared he played everyday. I LOVED watching him in the OF.....I just don’t follow the logic of Bell [emoji2371]

It doesn’t make sense. Just in the past year the Reds have given up like 4 of their top 12 prospects for one year players. They won’t make the playoffs this year and barring some offseason like the Reds have never had, they won’t next year. Then you are left with Castillo, Gray, Suarez, and Senzel as solid, contending team starter talent. And a bottom 3rd farm system. Unless they have something super innovative up their sleeve, 2021 and beyond could make the 13-18 teams look talented.

Lately, as shaky as possible. Jackson has been their Hernandez or Peralta, awful but continuously being used. The. They traded for 3 solid to upper echelon relievers and should be....maybe not a strength but a lot deeper and reliable.

Not trying to harp(I know it’s all I do) but Atlanta is an example of a team being ready to contend and making a few moves to put them in a position to get over the hump. They were strong everywhere except back end of the rotation and bullpen. They traded for bullpen help and are waiting and hoping Folty gets right. And they picked up Keuchel
The Reds, just have so many holes, I don’t feel like trading for one pitcher, with one year left is enough. Even with an off-season ahead. Just too many holes.

The suspensions will not start until they drop the appeal or the appeal is heard. MLB usually allows teams to stagger the suspensions when multiple players of the same position are suspended, so either Garret or Hughes will serve first, then the other second.

it definitely have been nice if the umpiring crew would have waited it out a little longer the Reds did play a game with the Braves this year that got over like at 1 in the morning after a long rain delay. The Braves look out again at some point their luck Is going to change. the Reds had the better pitcher pitching the next 3 nights make a statement and win the next three

Dick Williams has recently traded for 3 All-Star Pitchers..

I'd say the Reds organisation is headed in the right direction

Well if you say it in that context, he’s also traded away two all star position players recently

Four, if you count Duvall and Mesoraco last year.

He also released Kemp earlier this year.

so that kind of sucks if the game is called....what is the history or odds they get reduced on appeal?

It seems to me (and this is just me working from memory, no statistical evidence) that most players usually get one or two games knocked off their suspensions on appeal. I would think that Hughes has the better chance of the two of getting his suspension commuted.

If I'm Williams I still make those moves all day everyday

Yes, but two of the pitchers were all stars after he traded for them.
