Bummer about the first game of the series, but Desclafani and the other pitchers hung in there and gave the team a chance to come back.

Tie this series up today and go into Saturday with a chance to take the lead in the series.

Aquino's first game jitters are gone now. Like that he gets the chance to get right back out there. Good move by Bell. He's got the kind of power that one swing and we have three runs.

Aquino over Ervin? When Ervin is OPSing 1.009?

Bell must think Aquino has a better chance against RHP. I'd like to know their career MiLB splits against RHP and LHP. Anyone?

I know Ervin is 0.700 OPS against RHP, and 0.995 OPS against LHP, in the majors.

Oddly enough when he was even better than that vs lefties during his hot run....he was also way hotter than that vs righties [emoji2371]

He’ll be in there vs lefties and maybe get some courtesy AB’s vs righties....that’s what it is and we’ll have to move forward. Guess he had his shot last year and that is that.

Gotta win tonight....lineup I don’t really like so maybe they’ll score 10

Aquino over Ervin in the lineup be hard to understand.
After hitting close to .500 for about a week and a half and then get 6 plate appearances in the past 7 days?
It's the type of thing that might make Ervin wonder about what his future with the Reds is. I'm not sure why the Reds think they have to get Aquino right in the action again tonight.

What was the point in bringing Aquino up if you weren't going to play him? I don't get the complaints. Ervin put up an OPS 125 points lower than Aquino in AAA this year. It's obvious who has the most talent and upside between those two. Ervin is a complementary piece who crushes LHP. That's fine, but Aquino has a near 200 point higher ops vs RHP than Ervin in AAA this year and has way more upside.

AAA mashers are a dime a dozen but I care about major league results and Ervin has a career .801 OPS and yes Dietrich has been as cold as a witch's teet but he still has an ops of .863 this year including .909 against RHP. I'm fine giving Aquino a shot in a situation that there isn't a better option.

Aquino was brought up to see if he can be the corner OF masher to replace Puig before the off season. We can't find that out if he's on the bench. We already know what Ervin is; he mashes LHP and is mediocre vs RHP. Ervin has a .700 OPS vs RHP in 269 PA. That's not going to cut it for a corner OF.

Ervin has a .662 OPS vs RHP this year on a ridiculous ..412 BAIP. So he's been lucky to have an OPS that high. He's a platoon player on the short end on the platoon.

True, but his OPS of 0.863 is still higher than every Red other than Ervin and VanMeter.

I imagine it's the worst slump of his career. He deserves a chance to come out of it, at least against RH starters.

Peraza, for example, now appears to be the starting 2B against LHPs. His 2019 OPS? 0.645.

Comparing AAA stats to MLB stats? Get real.
Forget AAA stats. Ervin was tearing it up in the bigs.
Ervin was red hot two weeks ago, in the MAJOR leagues.
Aquino will get his chance, but I guess he is the new shiny object for some.

With the trades of Puig, Scooter and Roark, it's clear the Reds are no longer playing for 2019. They are now working on seeing who can be a part of 2020 and beyond.

They have a good idea of what they have with Ervin. They need to play Aquino everyday for awhile and see what they have in him.

JCM11

I think they're still playing for 2019 it's just that Ervin has shown he can't hit RHP so Aquino is getting his chance. All the big numbers Ervin was putting up during his hot streak this year was against LHP.

Having Winker and Ervin out there with a inexperienced CF probably isnt ideal. From what I've heard Aquino is solid with a great arm so that is probably a big factor as well. Should be interesting to see how they split up playing time going forward but it's nothing to get upset about either way.

What were the circumstances of your meeting?

It was either the Fall of '95 or early '96 at an Orlando Magic game. I was with a friend who had just signed a D1 baseball scholarship....so he was a baseball fanatic and I was still a Reds fan. He spotted Davis and Larkin setting a few rows in front of us in the lower bowl early in the game. About midway though the 4th, the game was over and it was on a weeknight, so 50% of the crowd had bounced. He goes to the souvenir/concession and gets a "soft" Orlando Magic baseball and we go down to Larkin and Davis (nobody is within 5 seats of them all the way around)....and my friend begins giving the pitch "Mr. Larkin and Mr. Davis, I am a big....." and Davis cuts him off with his hand, not even looking at him and starts claiming he is not signing sh*t, and he is trying to watch the game (there was like 5 minutes left, and the Magic were leading by 20ish points). Larkin reaches over him and grabs the ball, signs it....then tries to get Davis to sign it, and he refuses. Larkin hands the ball back to my friend and said thanks for being a fan (or something like that).

Georgia Championship Wrestling, which was under the umbrella of the NWA. The voice of Georgia Championship Wrestling was the incomparable Gordon Solie.

It eventually evolved into World Championship Wrestling (WCW), in a way. Vince McMahon bought GCW in 1984 (an event known as "Black Saturday"). It was an unmitigated disaster, and McMahon sold the time slot on TBS (but not the GCW company) to Jim Crockett Promotions, who ran the NWA-affiliated Mid-Atlantic Wrestling out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Mid-Atlantic, being an NWA territory, maintained ties with much of the old GCW roster. Eventually, Crockett sold the company to Ted Turner, and it was renamed World Championship Wrestling.

Heh, I still remember during the Adam Dunn days the dominant theme on Redszone seemed to be strikeouts weren't a big deal. Now here we are.

Granted, Dunn was a different cat and I enjoyed him as a Red. But I know just me personally that I've always maintained that old school mentality that there's more possible good things that happen putting the ball in play than there is turning around and walking back to the dugout.

I'm not an expert by any means but I suspect that stance isn't going to work for Aquino at the big league level. I'm sure he feels like it's what's been working for him down at AAA and obviously it was. But even though guys down there in some cases may certainly throw as hard and have breaking pitches nearly as sharp, there's still a reason a lot of them get no farther than that vs. the guys who are major league veterans like Gausman. Now he may be pretty bad this year. But he still is light years better than the Triple A and AAAA scrubs that Aquino may have feasted on in part.

Just seems like to the naked eye there are too many moving parts and everything is happening too fast when your mind is racing first of all as a young player. Then you have to get your body straightened out and ready to hit as the ball is coming to the plate and make a decision all in the same moment.

And I'm afraid that the moments in which he's on the good side of the scale will depend on pitchers making mistakes- and naturally his taking advantage of them. Veteran pitchers will probably be able to get him out fairly routinely. Gausman isn't even that good, although his year hasn't been nearly 6.00 ERA bad in terms of his performance. But he has over 900 innings in the big leagues and can handle someone like Aquino at this point.

I get the interest in Aquino with what he can do. I just hope for his sake he does it sometime down the line.

I feel like if he finishes the season strong that Atlanta might be competition for signing Wood, since he’s from there and came up in that org.

Interested to see how he fairs against the top of the Braves offense the third time through the order.

Bauer on the team hasn't effected Wood's performance tonight, nor the Offense's.

He’s helped Votto’s production

Yeah, but we have Farmer. Wood's wife and Farmer's wife are best friends.

Happy wife, happy life.
