You mean this lineup with Senzel and Grandal instead of Iglesias/Galvis and Barnhart, right?

Imagine a 2020 lineup with Freddy Galvis as our least productive bat. I like it as long as we have a bullpen to protect leads.

31 games with a guy hitting like Babe Ruth hardly tells the story. If you think a lineup Van Meter, Aquino, Galvis, and Iglesias in it is above average then I can’t help you. Not to mention Votto Suarez and Winker are a few tiers below good offenses top 3.

I think it is done to accommodate the media (radio and TV) -- games start at the top (or bottom) of the hour, plus 5 minutes to take care of introductions and such.

Homage to WTBS when they aired a lot of baseball instead of 16 straight hours of Friends.

Braves games used to start at 7:10 or 7:40 for the same reason -- to give the media 5 minutes of intro time. WTBS programming always started on the :05's and :35's -- a gimmick where the viewer could check out what was on other channels, and then still tune into TBS and not miss any of the program.

Just in case the Reds go the free agent route this winter maybe they will try this lineup and reserves. Just wishful thinking.

Senzel - ss
Gennett - 2b
Votto - 1b
Aquino - cf
Suarez - 3b
Puig - rf
Ervin - lf
Barnhart - c (unless they make a concerted effort for Grandal - then everything changes)

Bench: Peraza, VanMeter, Casali, Galvis (maybe), O'Grady

Trade Winker + lower prospect(s) to AL team for quality middle reliever(s). If Puig and Gennett are not coming back then keep Farmer and try to sign an overpowering closer. Dietrich, even though I like him and his attitude, is most likely to be traded and we'll likely lose J. Iggy to FA.
I'm sure I missed something but, I'm a firm believer in team chemistry and this hypothetical team would be a good mix of youth and experience. Just letting the baseball bounce around inside my head for a bit.

Don't know if you remember when NBC experimented with no announcers for a game in 1980. It was Jets vs. Dolphins and they let the viewers watch as if they were at the game with only the field announcer for any pertinent game info. Maybe the Reds should try that.

I hold no ill will against Lasorda.... and I was around then.

I once had the opportunity to meet Dusty Baker when he was the manager of the Reds. I mentioned that while I was very happy that he was the Reds' manager, it took me a while to get used to seeing him in a Reds uniform, as I had strongly disliked him when I was a kid -- as well as disliking Steve Garvey, Ron Cey, Reggie Smith, Davey Lopes, Steve Yeager, Bill Russell, and Rick Monday. He was impressed that I knew all the starting Dodgers. I said that in those days, you knew your enemy as much as you did your own team. He then told me that those were some really good battles back in those days, and George Foster hit the ball harder than any right-handed batter he ever saw.

Throughout the 70s, the Reds, Dodgers, and Pirates were consistently the three best teams in baseball, but only one could make the World Series.

I, for one, assumed Strasburg wouldn't dare throw anything but a fastball after the prior K/WP. It's entirely possible Bauer thought the same and was frozen.

Don't know if you remember when NBC experimented with no announcers for a game in 1980. It was Jets vs. Dolphins and they let the viewers watch as if they were at the game with only the field announcer for any pertinent game info. Maybe the Reds should try that.

Yes, I remember watching that game at my grandma's house. It was an almost surreal feeling.

I'll take that over the last 5+ years, that's for sure.

I think there's an ability to both "buy in" to this team being a contender and being realistic. I watch games hoping they win, and it's a lot more fun even having the most minuscule hope that they could sneak into the playoffs. At the same time, I know what they are. I know their inability to ever an extended win streak. I know their weak offense and troublesome bullpen.

Find it hard to believe the Votto send had any effect but yeah it’s looking like that Cubs loss might have been a back breaker.

But I’ve considered this season “over” like 4 or 5 other times at this point, so who knows.

It’s unlikely to be enough, but Reds do have an easy schedule coming up, easiest point of the season. They’d have to win on the road, but they could have a hot streak before this is all over.

Then again . . . .

I would have pulled Strasburg before the inning. Save his arm a bit with a 10 run inning.

Votto HAS to hit a HR now to get half the runs right back in the 6th!

Throwing in the towel on Bauer after three starts is one of those things I kind of expect from Redszone but still makes me question the statement that its the premier anything for Reds discussion

I donít think heís a scrub, but I said at the time of the trade that I think heís at least as likely to be a 4.00 ERA type guy as he is an ace, and here we are.

one could only hope it sucks that Bauer and Romano gave up so easy and didnt keep in the game.

It’s a small sample size, though obviously it’s a bit concerning that his last Indians start was a blowup one and then this one. But I’m still far away from panicking about him.

I saw Matt Boyd gave up 4 HRs last night, I’d be more concerned if they’d given up even more than Trammell to get that.

Or Suarez can hit the bomb and get more than half back.

Votto with a single, but chooses not to drive in the run. No RBI.

That inning was like pressing up all your place bets, getting come bets with odds on a few other numbers, making a few dollars and being ready to just break the bank....and then immediately sevening out (for my craps playing friends).

I left when it was 1-1 to buy hamburgers. It was 11-1 by the time I got to the burger joint.. It's not like I left the state to buy them, but I did leave the county. I live about a mile from the county line..

This FO is not playing for draft picks. They want to have a credible record this year. They didnít sign Gausman, Galvis, Bauer to tank for draft picks.

Argue with it all you want, but they have a business to run, and they arenít doing it by another tank job right now.

Do you really think I feel as though my posts here are considered ďargumentsĒ with the front office? Seriously? FOH.
