Since June 1st, Derek Dietrich has 14 hits in 105 at bats a .133 batting average, 2 homers and 7 rbi's. Aside from May when Derek hit .304 with 12 home runs and 22 rbi's , he has not hit over .200 in any month this season. He was pretty much a one month star. Hopefully Aquino will not be the same

Reds lineup, on paper, is quite weak and will need to be bolstered this off-season. Some of it is injury or absence (Votto, Senzel), but generally needs help.

Having said that, looking for Reds to win today, they are better than shown so far this series.

Kingspoint

Why? Pitcher on deck with two outs.

So the pitcher us at least not leading off next inning.

So you can force the pitcher to throw a WP or a better pitch on a 3-1 or 3-2 count.

So you can make the pitcher labor some more, for possibly 7-8 more pitches in the inning.

So the runners can be going on a full count.

So a WP (he's already hit a batter and walked several and has no control right now) can occur on any of the next 7-8 pitches.

There are more reasons, but I'm tired of listing them.

Kc61

Fourth outfielders, ahead in the count, are generally better hitters than pitchers hitting below .100.

So it was more than reasonable to go with Ervin, ahead 3-0, instead of that pitcher. Even if Ervin is a fourth outfielder, which he may well be.

I think the most HR he’s hit in a year was 14 so he doesn’t have a lot of pop. If he is trying to hit HRs then he is probably just aware of the situation. He’s been a 240-250 batter his whole minor league career and if he wants to stay in the majors and be an everyday player he’s going to have to hit more HRs. I have no idea what he’s trying to do but that’s the situation he’s in

Ervin has a .376 OBP and a lifetime .340. Heís normally had a solid walk rate, although less this year. He gets on base fairly often. That was the ďcurrent info.Ē Anybody can swing at a bad pitch.

Ervin has a .293 OB% this year vs righties and ..679 OPS

Using your numbers in this day of platooning....why would Ervin be batting 14th in this crap lineup?

I don’t know what batting 14th means. But Ervin is hitting .802 OPS ahead in the count. He is hitting .923 in a count with zero balls against him. He provides much more of a chance than “clearing the pitcher” regardless of the handedness of the pitcher.

It will be interesting to see what they do this offseason with the middle infield. I might just go with galvis at short and move Denzel back to second. Use Peraza as the backup. Those numbers are how Ervin has done ahead in the count against all kinds of pitching, lefties and righties included.

I know. I agree he should be allowed to swing 3-0 with Bauer next but if you donít swing 3-0 at a pitch thatís not very near perfect....you get at least 2 more pitches. His vs lefty and vs righty stats are silly to say the least.

At the plate and in field he looks like a minor leaguer today. I like him but heís not where he was in July. It was 3-0....everything about it seemed like an obvious pitch around with Bauer on deck after a terrible inning.

I believe 100% he was being walked and felt it before the first pitch due to scenario of Bauer next. First pitch showed Ervin wasnít thinking that way at all. In his only defense he never bats in front of the pitcher. Where he always bats I have less issue with the aggressiveness....though Iíve already mentioned early in game that I think teams are really pitching to our aggressiveness.

I think the most HR heís hit in a year was 14 so he doesnít have a lot of pop. If he is trying to hit HRs then he is probably just aware of the situation. Heís been a 240-250 batter his whole minor league career and if he wants to stay in the majors and be an everyday player heís going to have to hit more HRs. I have no idea what heís trying to do but thatís the situation heís in

Maybe he'd be better served trying for a higher on base percentage against righties than throwing good money after bad chasing HRs. They all say their up there trying to drive pitches and not going for HRs, but its obviously just the politically correct statement to make.

As we would have said in the 60's....'What a chop'...swept by a bad Pirates team. Has to be the low point of the season. A joke of a team.

Welp, swept by Hurdle and a group of bums.

This game was really a microcosm of this entire Reds season. Awful start and then fight and claw their way back into things, get people slightly optimistic and then crap the bed.

Oh well I guess.

Good thing Bell rested Ervin earlier in the year when he was hot so he can play him every day now that he's cold.
