It’s Mahle’s fault but I hate that set up! I do not see how it adds any range or increases chance for outs. The long underhand toss and pitcher going full from mound against a fast runner....it is not nearly as routine as the first baseman playing normal and covering first.

No way do I believe it has been a positive outcome set up when it’s been done.

I'm a big Mahle fan as well. He has to find a way to limit HRs, especially against LHH. I'd still advocate for him to have a lefty opener next year to punish teams who try to stack lefties against him.

If The Reds are going to use their bullpen so heavily (and to be fair most of MLB is too), they've got to go out and get some more high quality arms.

You can't rely on the David Hernandez's and Jared Hughes' of the world to carry all of those high leverage innings.

They've gotta fix this pen in the offseason.

it is tough to get those arms.....every year it seems like there are a few teams that clearly invest in their bullpen, and every year (sure it is not true, but it seems this way) those arms that had 2.3 ERA's last year seem to pitch near a 7.2 ERA the next year. If am not sure how reasonable this method is, but I recently heard someone say that fresh arms is the best strategy.....so if you can have a good closer, some Left handed pitchers and a solid set up guy or two.....just make sure the other 3-4 guys are young and have 2-3 similar guys in AAA. You need to put the pen together from many sources. The FA and trade markets are among those sources.

You can’t eliminate those sources because relievers can be volatile.

Just be analytical and smart about your purchases.

FAs, trades, organizational relievers, organizational starters, the waiver wire. Use them all, just recognize the importance of the pen and having enough good guys.

Throws the ball into the stands on a pickoff attempt. runner to 2b
Gives up a single 1st and 3rd , no out, Lorenzen coming in.

This seems like the right move, but I guess Lorenzen finishes the game or the Reds take a huge risk in the 9th.. If Lorenzen finishes the game, I guess Castillo needs to go really deep against Ponce Deleon in the 2nd game

yes, and dont forget ponce de leon has that whole fountain of youth thing going for him, too.

Back to back double headers on the road is a daunting task but man, you'd like to not lose in such excruciating fashion.

Man, this season sucks.

Both 8th and 9th we start out walking the first batter.

I had to listen to the game today but from memory one run scored on an error and the other three runs had gotten on base from a base on balls. Is that correct?

I'll save some posters some time:

"LOL Told you that the Reds suck. I called it.

Go Auburn!"

It looks like the Marlins are the only team in baseball we can beat on the road.

Let’s start a movement to change the rules to a 7 inning game next year

One was a HBP but yeah. They pretty much stole 3 runs. Reds just not a good team overall and these kinds of games really drive that point home. Not enough offense, defensive mistakes, and bullpen breaking down. Pretty much the same story it's been all year. When and how do they change this losing culture? They changed a lot of the players and are getting similar results, what's next?

its on bell again .he took out mahle at 90 pitches and only 2 hits with one out in the seventh when the bullpen is not getting it.

What do you have against Auburn? That was an exciting win yesterday.

Apparently, he is uncoachable. If so, it's time for him to try his hand at basketball again.

Good idea. Indeed, why doesn't someone with nothing else to do figure how many games the Reds would
have won this year if all games ended after the eighth inning?
