Can not think of a better place to be on 9/11 than at a baseball game.

My brother spent 9/11 emptying a high-rise across from Central Park before he secured the building and was the last to leave. With a mechanical engineering (and nuclear engineering) degree, including an integral knowledge of the infrastructure of New York City High-Rises (he had his own business refitting high-rises to be more energy efficient), he knew the moment of the first impact exactly how it would collapse upon itself, and how the 2nd one would, too. He eventually walked across a bridge as everyone else who left Manhattan that day, in order to get home to his family. He has since passed away (2006), but I will never forget.

I like the point Chris Welsh made. The Reds have been plagued by a lot of poorly timed homers given up by the pitching staff, but a lot of that is ok the offense. Just no room to breathe whatsoever and we're playing in an environment now where more homers than ever are being hit.

Gotta fix this offense.

Let him try out for a spot, sure. But don't pencil him in.

He was released for a reason. If he's solid as a reliever that's still a huge win. The Reds have shown this year that you need a lot of reliable relievers if you don't wanna burn your pen up by the break.

If he had retired the first two batters I'd agree with you. But he plunked the leadoff hitter and walked the second one.

At that point the winning run is at the plate with nobody out and your starter is already approaching 110 pitches and it's only the 7th inning. Even if he was able to retire the next 3 guys, he'd be looking at 140 pitches to make it all 9.

I dunno, it's all hindsight now. But it sure didn't work out.

Probably because of all those times where they pulled a starter around 100 pitches only to see the bullpen falter and everyone go "and THAT'S you should stick with your best pitchers". Sonny was definitely not as sharp but he still hadn't allowed a single hit to that point.

Personally I envisioned a possible run scoring double at worst, I didn't see Sonny giving up a big fly there. But he did.

Should have been strike 3, dead ball, game over.

But the catcher touched the ball first and directed it to Dietrich.... not sure if that makes a difference.

Major wake-up call for Big C. Spend money this winter or eff off.

Yep. Even if Aquino is 100% the real deal the offense needs major work. Bullpen too.

It's put up or shut up time for big mouth Bob.

Why in the hell doesn’t FSOH show the overhead shot on those pitches?

Do you know if there are overhead cameras in that stadium? Certainly if they have the ability to do so they would have done so...no reason why they wouldn't, I should think.

Could be remembering wrong but I think they showed an overhead shot on Van Meter's check swing.

Try being a fan for 58 years. There a few championships, but mostly losing or getting close. You have to love the Reds or the game to stay up past 1:00 AM. I bleed red. Can't help it

As Operator said...they showed it on VM.

So now that that is addressed, your thoughts?

C ould be:drink: remembering wrong but I think they showed an overhead shot on Van Meter's check swing.

So...a Fox Sports conspiracy to not show a play...even though they and the Reds make money by showing the games? OK.... ;)

We all need to stop :alcohol: :D:

No one said that.

But now that your doubts on an overhead shot have been refuted, what is your opinion on FSOH not showing it?

To be clear - your declaration that if they could have they would have done so...well that has been proven false.

Well I would be happy to give an opinion, but first I would like to know why you think they would stifle it in the first place? A fair question to you.

I have no idea which is why I asked. And you erroneously refuted such a possibility.

I doubt they're stifling anything.

It's quite possibly just negligence on the guys in the TV van.

Strange take by North.

Incorrectly stating that if there was an overhead shot they would have shown it.

Then refusing to opine until I answered why they would stifle it. (No one accused them of that)

The "refutation" you speak of is from a poster who stated:

"Could be remembering wrong but I think they showed an overhead shot on Van Meter's check swing."

Let's stop this. :duel:. Tis' late! :beerme:

Bell allowed his excellent starter to go for a no-hitter.

I have no trouble with that.

There was no way he was going to get to a no-hitter unless Bell was going to go full Terry Collins and let him throw 140 pitches. But even assuming you're right, he left him in for ANOTHER BATTER after the no-hitter was lost. Definitely no excuse for that.

Major wake-up call for Big C. Spend money this winter or eff off.

Let's start with Reds fans. Many here need a wake up call that this team is what its record says it is. I hear many hammering on and on about Pythag and one run losses...no! This is still a really bad team when it comes to winning baseball games

SILVER LINING: After tonight's contest, the Reds play 12 consecutive games against teams with legitimate hopes of making the postseason. Yes, the Reds get to do what they have done 17 times in 20 years since the turn of the century, and that is play the role of spoilers. I have to admit though, sweeping the Cubs and helping to knock them out of wildcard contention would be awfully sweet.
