Today the Reds will wear 1999 throwback uniforms.
I loved that 1999 team, they were exciting an entertaining. I didn’t care very much about black becoming a primary color of the uniforms though.

I hear you. U.C football has some all-black uniforms. IMO, they look like a bunch of cockroaches running around the field.

I like the sleeveless vest too but would rather the vest not have pinstripes. Have red shirts be worn under the vest with Red hats. I wouldn't mind black or blue trim and inside the wishbone c on the front of the vest.

Today, the Reds are wearing the 1999 throwbacks. The Reds were 96-67 in 1999, finishing the regular-season schedule tied with the Mets for the wild card at 96-66. The Reds lost a one-game playoff (the 163rd game) to the Mets, 5-0 at Riverfront Stadium. The Reds were managed by Jack McKeon.

On September 22, 1999, the Reds defeated the Padres, 4-3 at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. The Reds lineup that night:

Mike Cameron cf
Barry Larkin ss
Sean Casey 1b
Greg Vaughn lf
Dmitri Young rf
Eddie Taubensee c
Aaron Boone 3b
Pokey Reese 2b
Ron Villone p

It seems Bauer throwing the ball over the CF wall after being pulled from his last start with the Indians, was a sign the Reds should have payed more attention to.

My opinions on the 1999 uniforms:

Caps: OK. The black cap was very popular in 1999 and the early 2000's. Actually, the black cap was intended to be the road cap, and the current road cap (red w/black bill) was the home cap in 1999. (The current home cap was the alternate cap, which was worn about three times from 1999 through 2007.) But the players liked the black cap and sleeves with the home jersey, so they often wore it -- especially toward the end of the season. The Reds lose major points for wearing all-red helmets today. Either red w/black bill or black w/red bill should have been the order of the day.

Jerseys: OK to good. The Reds made some changes in the uniform from 1998 to 1999. The home jerseys were still sleeveless vests with pinstripes but they incorporated black trim around the numbers. Actually, I thought it was an improvement over the 1993-98 jersey. The home jersey was intended to be worn with red undersleeves, and for part of the season they were, but the black sleeves became more popular as the season wore on.

Pants: OK. Again, a slight improvement over the 1993-98 iteration.

Socks: This uniform always looked better when the players showed a lot of red stocking, even when they were wearing black sleeves.

Overall: These uniforms were not not as bad as the reputation they now have, but they weren't great, or even particularly good. The black in the uniform (especially when black is not a team color) was definitely a late 90's/early 00's fad throughout sports. They would have looked better with red sleeves and all red caps. (The road uniform from the period also would have looked better with red sleeves -- a look the the Reds never once wore in the nine years they had these uniforms.)

Bauer’s got 211 innings this year, I think it’s time to just sit him down. Certainly take him out of this game.

Half the bullpen is home with the flu and Bauer always wants the ball, he was going 115-120 pitches in about every start with Cleveland.

The Reds won in the following throwback uniforms:

1902
1936
1967
1976
1995

If you could choose only one of those five to replace the current uniforms, which one would you pick? (No alterations -- must be selected as is.)

If I had to choose from the uniforms you have listed I'd have to choose the 1967 uniform.

I really liked the 1969, 1939 and 1961 uniforms better though.
