I hate complaining about lineups but I also hate the Barnhart/Iglesias 5-6 combo, so I'm sort of stuck here...

Barnhart actually does very well hitting 8th and the challenges that go along with that. I wish David Bell saw it that way

Sonny Gray had arthroscopic right elbow surgery today to remove loose bodies that he’s pitched with all season. It’s not expected to affect his off-season routine. #reds

Is that why he was scheduled not to start Sunday? To not cut into the off-season for either the player or the surgeon! If he didn't get his 200th K last night, were they going to postpone the surgery until after he pitched Sunday?

The current group including injuries, illnesses, etc. has a number of eighth place hitters.

Tonight’s order with Ervin/Peraza hitting 7 and 8 is among the better lineups of late. But still a number of eighth place hitters.

They just have a weak lineup, which is now depleted, once you get beyond the top few guys.

No, David Bell announced before last nights game that it would be Sonnys last start this season

During the game Reds’ announcers said Gray would not pitch Sunday. It’ll be a bullpen day. That was already set. I don’t recall the surgery being mentioned, however.

I'm sure Bell knew last night that the surgery was scheduled for today. Those "loose bodies" didn't just show up last night!

Really intrigued by the Mahle start tonight. Welsh seemed to indicate that he was pitching differently (not just better) last time out. He turned in his best start of the year. The Wild Eyed Optimist in me is thinking that Derek Johnson cooked up a strategy for him. It could turn out to be just a random good start. That's why I want to see a good performance to close out the year for Mahle.

$4 million is nothing in the grand scheme of things and they should have significant payroll flexibility.

I’ve been told I have gaslighted people here who have been overly or over the top critical of the team this year.
Since I’m not a BBQ man or griller of much repute I disagree with that. However I can agree now that in these last few weeks or about a month. They look like they are just mentally worn out or just have packed it In. Or they really do suck this bad.

I listened to the first couple of innings last night. I caught Thom's rip on Votto after Braun's HR. I really hope Thom goes out with is dad. He is just isn't a good baseball broadcaster and think way too much of his own opinions. Just go away and do football or maybe pick up some college broadcasting job elsewhere.

I'm afraid the Reds have just mailed in the rest of the season. With Brewers still very much alive for the NL Central they are still going to give a big effort today despite clinching a playoff berth last night. Probably everyone associated with the Reds will just walk through the games this weekend in Pittsburgh and be ready to jump on that plane out of town Sunday evening. Just a bad ending to a season that looked like it might lead into something good next year. Now I'm not so sure.
