Short of the playoff years, I don't think I've ever wanted to win a game more than I do today. We've got to hear it one last time.

In the top of the first half inning of Marty's very first regular season game, he got to call Hank Aaron becoming only the 2nd player in baseball history to reach 714 home runs. How about in his very last call be "Geno Suarez becomes only the 2nd Red to reach 50 home runs AND THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE REDS"

I don't remember but I would be pretty sure I would have listened to his first broadcast in spring training that year. I listened all the spring games as well as regular season in those days. I do remember at first thinking it was still Al Michaels but sometime along the way he was being referred to as Marty and then hearing this strange name of Brennaman. Hard to believe is has been 46 years. Where has all the time gone?

In the inning ≠ in a row. And yeah it is objectively Not Good to walk the bases loaded. But walks aren’t runs until the runners cross the plate, and they crossed the plate because JVM muffed a fairly easy play. Castillo has been responsible for some real stinkers in the 2nd half, on this one he’s a victim of circumstance.

At least we rested our best player today. Gonna be big for that Pirates series.

Now the Reds have to win 2 of 3 from the Pirates for my prediction of 75 wins to be realized. Possible but not likely with the Reds just rolling over and dying on the field.

Fitting that they bring on Marty's broadcast for a key moment and he complains bitterly when the hitter pops up.

That was a bitter complaint? Is he wrong? It's got to the point where I assume you had a negative personal reaction with Marty.

Marty ends his career by complaining about a hitter taking too many pitches. Against one of the hardest pitchers to hit in the majors, but one who can be wild. At a time when we desperately needed a base runner.

Good luck Marty, you've had a HOF career but it's time to pack it in.

Dude, it's Blandino. Who cares...

I recall Waite Hoyt's last game (64?) Reds lost that one too. Waite always interviewed the star of the game who would be from the winning team. But he wanted to talk to a Red as it was his last game so he interviewed Sammy Ellis.

As far as I'm concerned, the Reds can make everyone available this offseason. This is a poor, poor team. Offense ranks in the bottom 25% of MLB in nearly all categories. Except for Gray, pitching is middle of the road.

Pretty emotional signoff from both Marty and Jeff. Also got what I believe was the first real confirmation that Tommy Thrall will be taking over.

Yea, that's an appropriate last memory of him.. I am not listening, but the whining about Sosa/McGwire in Marty's last game also seems appropriate.

Marty was good for about half his career, then became a bitter , clueless old man.

AND THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE FANS, WHO THANKFULLY DON'T HAVE TO HEAR MARTY ANYMORE

Personally, I disagree. But in your opinion- based off your level of disdain- how does 9/26/2019 relate to your signature line of 11/13/07?

Always loved bitter clueless old announcers: Marty, Bob Prince, Ray Scott, Harry, the great Jack Brickhouse. They didn't suffer fools gladly.

I would have been disappointed if he done anything less to end his cantankerous career.

How's the free radio?

How's the free radio?

It worked fine, there were thousands of us fans in the stands and back on the concourses listening to Marty.

I've been listening to Reds games on radio since the 1960s. Back in the 60s and 70s many fans brought transistor radios to the game and listened to play by play.

I was surprised the radio came with batteries and that Marty called the whole game.

He walked three in the inning. No pitcher can expect not get away with an inning like that at the big league level. No matter if an error(s) are involved.

Not the point. The catch should have been made. He should have walked away with a scoreless innings. The walks did not cause JVM to drop the ball.

But he would have never had the chance to drop it if Castillo doesn't walk the ballpark. So I put the initial blame on Castillo and secondary on JVM. I finally did see the play. Van Meter should have caught the ball. He went a long way for it but a decent MLB outfielder catches that ball. JVM just isn't that good. I had high hopes for him but he looks like is a very marginal MLB utility player at best.

Van Meter and OGrady are triple A players only. Along with Peraza-Dietrich-Romano-Bowman-Kunhle-Casali-Mahle-Blandino-Farmer etc.

It would have been a tough catch. Walking the bases loaded leaves you vulnerable to such a play

Is it cantankerous or realistic? If he's said a lot of negative things in recent history, maybe it's because the team's been really bad in recent history? If we don't want negative things said about our team then maybe we need to ask our team not to give them reasons to be negative?

With all the Marty interviews and all the soft ball questions, there's one question that I haven't heard him asked:

"Marty, would you still be retiring today if not for the Reds futility of late?"

Johnny Bench admitted once that one of the reasons he retired in 1983 at the age of 35 was because the Reds were losing. I think Marty had had enough of broadcasting bad baseball.

I think the main reason Bench retired was because he could no longer perform at a level that was up to his expectations.

Trivia time: Johnny Bench and Satchel Paige once played on the same team. The year was 1966. Bench was 18, and Paige was 59. The team was the Peninsula Grays of the Carolina League. You can win yourself some drinks at the bar armed with that bit of minutiae.
