Want to give Chris Holtmann his due. Guy has been note perfect from day 1 and got this team back to playing at a high level very very quickly.
As for this season I’ve watched the UC and Villanova games. Team plays very good defense and is very deep. The guard play with Carton and Walker has elite potential. There are four guys that can create their own shot and score. Wesson is going to cause problems for most college teams. I don’t know if they can make a meal out of it, but lots of tasty ingredients.

Have to feel really good about the defense so far. That'll play well in March.

It was an 8 point game and I flipped it over to the Big 12 game. Flipped back about 8-10 minutes later and they were up 28!

They didn’t look too bad, but that Carr kid from Minnesota played out of his mind and OSU couldn’t level him out.

Dude had a game where everything he threw up went in. Honestly it was just one of those nights you have throughout the season, where one player just goes off, and there isn't much you can do.
I thought there were some curious calls, but those tend to happen from time to time. It was a tough physical game in which Minnesota tended to get the breaks.
Oh well, OSU is good, I don't think they are #1 good.

What a weak 5th foul call on Kaleb Wesson. Cal's constant whining paid off.

I cannot believe how quite this thread is as the BASKETBALL Buckeyes are in the top 5 and moving up. Oh well,
D.J. Carton got 15 points and five rebounds off the bench in Saturday's 71-65 victory over Kentucky. The Buckeyes own four wins over top-40 KenPom teams.

OSU is far from the most talented team in the nation, but that doesn't mean they can't be the best.
Holtmann is a master when it comes to a game plan. He tends to give OSU an game plan advantage for every game.
They defend, hard, very hard. They make it difficult on the opposing team without fouling all that much.
I think their biggest flaw may be the lack of outside shooting. If Washington isn't on, they can struggle from deep, allowing teams to collapse around Wesson and make it difficult.

I have been watching clips and looking at the numbers the last couple days to see how WVU matches up against Ohio State. They may be more similar than they are different. I actually might describe Ohio State as a little better version of WVU in that they are both deep, long and athletic....and in most games it gives them an advantage. Ohio State clearly is a better shooting team and relies a little more on the 3 pointer than WVU most nights. Both teams rebound well and turn the ball over too much. As I said, in most area's it feels like Ohio State is slightly to moderately better....and the only clear advantages I see for WVU is on the offensive boards and Ohio State does not seem to get many steals which I would not have expected. Just some initial thoughts.

That may be true. Their shooting is rough right now. They just can't make a shot to save their lives. They will bounce back, but I do think a lot of it rides on Washington playing well again.

an outsiders thoughts....their entire scheme seems built around Kaleb Wesson, but he is not the most talented player or at least much more talented than 3 or 4 guys. I think the offense would work better if it ran more through the perimeter talent and maybe more motion based in search of the best shot opportunity. Keleb Wesson is a good college player, but there is higher end next level talent on the roster that often appear almost forced to operate as a piece in his shadow.

I think regressed is the wrong word, he’s definitely playing like a freshman though. Very inconsistent and obviously the turn overs are killer.
I’m not sure what Holtmann is trying to prove with what he did with Washington yesterday.

Don't know. Washington hasn't been the same player since he missed a few games with a rib injury. I think he is their most important player right now. They need a consistent outside scorer. Washington, Walker, Andre Wesson, and Carton has shown the ability to, but now it seems like they are all in a slump.
Their schedule this year has been brutal, and right now they are mired in a terrible slump. They 'should' get things turned around, but in this stretch of games, the only game they shouldn't have lost was to Wisconsin. The B1G will be a bloodbath this season, lot of good talent, and lot of competitive teams in the middle of the pack. Heck Rutgers just knocked off MSU.

Kind of. They played a soft part of their schedule. They still have a lot of struggles of offense and can’t generate open shots well and miss a lot of the ones they do get.

Good question and a head scratcher for sure. If he ends up at an Iowa school, I would say that he was homesick.
