Double header in the first series of the season in a tough place.

So Xavier is getting no-hit through 7 innings. Not an awesome start to the year.

adkindo

WVU is at Jacksonville, and they stream their games on YouTube, but there is no sound. Not sure if that is normal. The broadcast is fairly primitive....like a camcorder on a tripod that moves when the ball is hit. So I can't tell if anyone is on 1st or 3rd, and none of the graphics tell that information.

Will be rooting for Louisville and Junior Zach Britton. I was one of his coaches in HS and I'm hoping he gets drafted this year. Unbelievable plate discipline and will never see a better hitter at the HS level.

Sorry SR just saw this...yeah the "Leathernecks" don't have much of a baseball team this year or last. Why oh why did UT schedule them?

that is the problem for the "casual" college baseball fan....I am not sure who is good and bad in the non-con portion of the schedule unless they are ranked. Baseball is unlike Football and Basketball....as it is common for a major conference school to suck, and teams you barely have heard of like Dallas Baptist or Stetson are often really strong. I recall a kid I graduated with had all these offers from "big schools" and he chose Stetson. I did not get it at the time, but he had a good career there and played with some big time players.

Less so than it used to be. For a time, the Big West was arguably the best conference in college baseball not named the SEC.

^^^I recall hearing about Wichita State Baseball long before their basketball program was making national news. I recall Cal State Fullerton and Rice always having good teams when I was younger. One issue is the scholarships allowed.....teams have nearly 30 players, and limited to 11.5 scholarships. Most guys, if not nearly all are on partial athletic scholarships.

Pepperdine has been pretty weak for a number of years. If you've ever been on Pepperdine's campus, it's hard to imagine them not being amazing at baseball. It's like the campus was build specifically to recruit baseball players. Imagine being outdoors there for the better part of six months! It's enough to make you forget that there's mandatory chapel for undergrads...

it is in Malibu.....just look at campus! I can't imagine going to college in Malibu! It only costs $50K per year...but after FA, most students only pay a very small amount of around $35K per year. Just looking up tuition, I noticed it is a Christian affiliated school....never knew that.

Fair enough. Given that last year's Cinderella run to the CWS was their first appearance in Omaha in 35 years, I think I can be forgiven for not having Michigan front of mind as a traditional baseball power. But looking at it now they had some run in the late 70s/early 80s! They were basically Wichita State 10 years before Wichita State was Wichita State.

I was going to post something questioning the Vols' schedule, but then I checked the full schedule and saw the Round Rock deal which was pretty impressive. If you're going to play in the SEC, I guess it's okay to slack off in the non-conference portion of the schedule outside of the one weekend.

Well according to Warren Nolan the Raiders check in with an RPI of 123 and a SOS of 64. The RPI puts them right where Mississippi St. and Vandy are. FWIW they are 3-8 but one of those wins came against Louisville...3 losses came to Missy St. and 3 more came to Auburn.

At the end of the first hole we learned that she was legendary Wichita State coach Gene Stephenson's new wife. She is also Dick Howser's daughter. Pretty random, but it meant a lot of great baseball talk for our 9!
