The Reds have put out some God Awful lineups this Spring. I get that a lot of guys are unavailable but they're playing guys like Schebler and Davidson that don't even have much of a future in the big leagues. Yesterday's lineup had Barnhart as our cleanup hitter. BTW, Joey Votto looks just as awful as he usually does this time of yr. We really can't afford him to start off 2020 like he did last yr

I don't read much into that. I think the starting lineup is already decided with Shogo leading off/ Senzel (when healthy), Votto, Moose, Suarez (when healthy), Cast, Winker, Aquino, and Barnhart. Some of the pitching appearances bother me, with some of our top pitchers getting hammered, but it is Spring Training, and it doesn't count. Never try to second guess David Bell. He's like a mad scientist with his lineups. It will all work out.

I have no clue what the most common lineup will be this season.

There are a lot more moving parts than in year's past.

I think the catchers and Galvis will hit 7th and 8th.
I think Akiyama, when he's in the lineup, will lead off-- unless he struggles.
I think Moustakas, Suarez, and Castellanos will hit 3rd - 5th in some order.

Votto, Winker, Senzel, Aquino, Ervin-- I have no clue right now.

Things to note:

-- Galvis showed some easy power, but that ball should have been caught. Poor job by Betts.
-- Love that Winker hit against Price, a LH. Love that Winker worked on his flexibility and strength over the winter.
-- Aquino hit the ball hard to the opposite field and showed some solid patience. He didn't chase, as he did pretty much the entire month of September.
-- Casali really looks good against southpaws. If he doesn't play too much, he's a nice weapon to have.
-- As good as Casali looked, Dietrich and Votto did not. Eww.

Sims' curve is a real weapon. Pairing that with his mid-90s heater should see a crap ton of K's as a reliever. Might even see that mid-90s fastball jump a notch or two.

Lux cued one down the line for perhaps the weakest single of Spring Training, but Sims works around it. No balls were hit particularly hard.

Interesting notes on the interview with Reds' Vice President of Player Development, Shawn Pender:

-- Minor leaguers are working on two-a-days right now, will move to three-a-days.
-- Instructional League begins next week. Provides young guys a breather and come back fresh.
-- India injury affected last season's numbers, says Pender. (Hmmph.) Will start in AA.
-- Garcia also at AA. Organizational favorite. Ability and intelligence. Might be a fast riser.
-- ARod going to AAA. Superior hands, good defensively. Hopes to see him show more pop in Louisville.
-- LaValley lost weight.
-- Praises scouting for Payton Rule V selection. Good OBP
-- Fairchild changed his swing and put up much better numbers. (Virginia swings suck almost as much as Stanford ones.)
-- Wants to win at minor league level so bringing in veterans as a focal point.
-- Stephenson likely one injury away from MLB. Always prepared. Short swing means better numbers.

- Lodolo will not pitch in big league Spring Training, but will probably move quickly. Johnson and company wanted to see him and provide some information. Will probably go to A+ with Browning.
- Pender likes Mike Siani. Great defensive player. Natural player. Both are from Philly/ Northeast.
- Garcia mentioned again. Again with the intelligence, then mentioned his "fire."
- Each player has a individual development plan. Brought down from on high with Williams and company.
- Greene is rehabbing now. 10 - 12 pitches last week and long toss. Will throw in mid- to late-May in Extended Program, then move to Dayton or Daytona for 3 IP in piggyback starting system. Interesting that Greene's spent time with Gray and Bauer discussing their philosophies during injury.
