Works for me, since I'm (unfortunately) a fan of both teams.

Looks like this is a done deal.

A lot of drama tomorrow (Monday) for Redskins. Apparently tomorrow they announce they are dropping Redskins.

Some fans are pushing RedWolves and have some pretty cool logos.

But the local ABC Sports guys says some other news is coming tomorrow and it's bad. They fired their top 2 NFL talent guys and it's somehow related to that.

I'm trying to imagine what would constitute 'bad' and would relate to pro-personnel. One thing I could think of is keeping two sets of books and paying players under the table to manipulate the salary cap.

This was posted in the Onion in 2013. Today it would probably be Babylon Bee.

Sounds like it's going to be bad enough that Snyder is likely to be forced out. It's going to be ugly, but the NFL will be better for it afterwards.

It supposedly will become known today (Thursday the 16th). Whether related or not, I guess their longtime radio voice retired today effective immediately.

The Redskins didn't comment on his retirement, so it's related.

Something about pimping cheerleaders to important season ticket holders?

My buddy was (maybe is) a season ticket holder. I'll have to see what he was offered. Granted, he's not very important.

That story is two years old but I suspect some new, more damning, info is about to come out. Just speculating though.

The story is pretty awful - I'm not going to bother linking to it because its behind a pay wall, but the Post is reporting that at least 15 women, including 2 sports writers were harassed.

The new name, by the way, has been announced as the #Metoos.

Washington Football Team?!? That's pretty solid evidence there is to be no 2020 season.

Should have been "The Washington Football Club". "Team?" looloo idea, even if it's just to say nothing.

I want it to be Washington Team Football, just so they make the abbreviation part of their logo.

It's "Commanders"

:barf:

Oh well. I guess it's better than Guardians. So glad we have Bengals here

Every new nickname in pro sports in the past 30 years has seemed ridiculous when announced, but we eventually get used to them. Give the Guardians and Commanders 5 or 10 years, and you won't think anything of it anymore.

We'll get used to it but I'll never like it

"Guardians" and "Commanders" both sound pretty lame to me, but Boston Red's post about getting used to a nickname has merit. "Packers" is an iconic nickname now but would probably sound lame if it did not already have a century long legacy. I understand that "Red Wolves" had some trade name issues; I was actually hoping Washington would go with "Red Hogs" to harken back to their teams under Joe Gibbs.
For the most part I like team nicknames which sound like something a bunch of kids would come up with to name their team.

I think I speak for most Washington fans when I say, You had two years and this is the best you could come up with? I also agree that people will get used to it but what a disappointment, though not a surprise given who the owner is.

KronoRed

It's not the best but it's not horrible, at least they didn't stay "football team" which would have been the worst choice.

This is a good way to look at it. “Commanders” is what happens when a bunch of football tough guys, lawyers, and corporate shills get together and try to come up with a Very Serious nickname.

How about the Washington Tyrants? That sounds like a very forward thinking name

I like how you can call them the "Commies" for short.

Well it is appropriate to call them Commanders 'cause DC "commands" us to do all sorts of things
