Would be nice to have Garrett available.

That was my first thought when Bell brought him in when he did. Sims was sharp tonight. Two outs & nobody on, Bell shouldíve given him the opportunity to get the 3rd out & save Garrett. But, he needed a reason to get Winker out of the lineup, I guess. Weíve seen the BP blow plenty enough games so far this season to know better than to trust a 2 run lead late in the game & remove the hottest hitter so heís unavailable for extra innings. Moves like that continuously hurt the team but Bell learns nothing from his mistakes & is compelled to tinker his way right out of win after win. He has no feel for the game IMO.

Also can’t forget Suarez and his .147 BA and .590 OPS striking out with bases loaded in 9th with an opportunity to blow it wide open. Not a knock on Votto but at his age and performance if he’s batting above 6th in the order you’ve got problems. We just have too many players that don’t show up every year, no accountability, no player development, poor draft picks, just a total disaster.

If it does, they would see it isnít going to change until David bell is let go.
It took 3 years too long to realize Bryan Price was the worst manager in MLB history.
Please donít make the same mistake with David bell.

You have assembled the talent good enough to win, so PLEASE, PLEASE get a guy in there that knows how to put them in a position to win. I canít take much more of this garbage. Circumstances were different. Iggy was meant to be good and had his role expanded to relief ace instead of just closer. It didnt work.

This is more, you are not reliable in leverage situations right now and we want to give you a chance to get some extended success to get yourself right before we shatter your confidence again.

Yes you would play the middle of the infield at dp depth. But, yes, that would most likely have failed too but it would have given them their best chance at sending the game to extra innings (where they also would have lost).

Flick off the glove and we are in action. Iglesias then threw a perfect change to strike a guy out. Aside from the fringe balk, he wasn’t off at that point and it isn’t like our pen is stocked with options.

Jones threw a bunch of high fastballs. I guess they were hoping for a pop up.

I’m also baffled they didn’t load the bases and set up the double play.

Jeff, ever the not tough questioner, throws a softball question to Bell by giving the answer in the question.

Here I thought we were picking up ground on all 3 cubs, cards, & brewers...
This really does turn my stomach.
It makes me wonder if it turns Reds owner’s stomach’s?
If it does, they would see it isn’t going to change until David bell is let go.
It took 3 years too long to realize Bryan Price was the worst manager in MLB history.
Please don’t make the same mistake with David bell.
He is absolutely not the guy.
You have assembled the talent good enough to win, so PLEASE, PLEASE get a guy in there that knows how to put them in a position to win. I can’t take much more of this garbage. Already in this short season the Reds are inventing new ways to give away games. This is ridiculous. Other teams and managers must sit back and laugh. And just look for the nearest like taking candy from a baby bumper sticker to buy. The Marlins and O’s send us their best wishes I bet, with a big ‘ol mY goodness YOU SUCK at the end.

He had them in position and brought the closer in. The closer flat out flunked the assignment!

David Bell: "(Raisel) hasn't pitched in 8 or 9 days. I could tell from the beginning he wasn't completely sharp."

"He's going to be fine. He's going to bounce back from this."

"I think the key was not scoring more runs." #Reds

Sam Lecure for manager.

There's not much else Bell can say given his options.

You hope that it had everything to do with not pitching for a 9 days and try to avoid Iglesias losing confidence. Send him back out there tomorrow with the lead and cross your fingers. If he botches another one, then you're in big trouble.

Outside of Sims, I don't trust anybody in the bullpen right now.

Well...could be worse. The Phillies blew a 7-0 lead and lost 8-7 to lose both games of their DH.

Honestly I'm not even that upset because I knew we were going to lose all along after we didn't play add on after getting up 4-2. It was inevitable in my mind. As soon as Iggy hit the first batter I knew it was over...

Hate to tell Bell the cardinals weren’t done scoring so we may have needed a lot more runs.

Bell specifically asked Suarez to get a hit in the 9th. He didn't listen.

When Suarez starts hitting, this team gets substantially better. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that day will come.

Living in Eastern Ontario, the Blue Jays are the daily serving......I watched the first game......Biggio with a key hit in the ninth......as for the second game....I had to snooze......but came back for the ninth with the Blue Jays ahead by two.

Suarez earns all exemptions because of the contract. His average is far below adequate but he must be played because of the contract.

VanMeter is a joke.......the numerator will always a positive number (he did have a hit) but the denominator grows with no increase in the numerator. Start him tomorrow

He's not playing because of his contract. He's playing because he's supposed to be the best offensive player in the Reds lineup and they're hoping he comes out of his funk every time he steps to the plate.

By my count the Reds have been tied or leading after six innings in 14 out of the 23 games this year. I’m beyond frustrated with Bell and the bullpen.

Apathy...I guess itís the best way to describe it. I thought the off-season pickups were a good start, but felt like they had needs in the bullpen, an every day catcher and top flight shortstop that didnít get addressed. This team relies to heavily on the home run, lacks a true lead off hitter, defensively is not strong enough and being managed by the next coming of Bob Boone. The minor leagues have a handful of interesting talents, but we really should be seeing some prospects knocking on the door based on drafting at the top the last 5-6 years. The Cubs and Astros put on a clinic for maximizing your train wreck years. We donít have a single prospect that can rival those two organizations output. We have gotten so little out of the trades that have been made that I have to believe other GMís must be smiling like the Cheshire Cat when we call expressing interest in making a deal. This year has just been pure disappointment from game #2 to todayís debacle.

The people saying Sims should be the closer or someone else should be the closer are ignoring more than half of the problem. We lost this game because David Bell has a designated closer, and managed the game to get to the closer instead of just pitching his best people. Sims is a long man. Perfectly capable of going three innings.

He was dealing out there. They weren't touching him. But instead of letting him stay in the game, Bell followed a defined pattern to get to his closer.

Take out a guy who is cruising for no reason, then replace him with a guy to get one out against a lefty (which he did), then replace him for no reason, even though 2 of 3 scheduled hitters in the next inning were lefties.

Instead of just letting Sims complete the game. And having a guy ready in case he started becoming ineffective.

I don't think many managers would leave Sims in there to pitch all three innings. And even though Sims, like many relievers, has started in the past he is not stretched out as a long man like Mahle is.

If a pitcher is obtaining outs it is nonsensical to remove that pitcher,, since when did this become a reasonable course of action

Your post speaks to the complexity of the situation related to the disaster that is the Reds bullpen and Bell as a manager, but there is worth in the simplistic eye-test opinion that the current closer can't get the job done. Thus, suggesting Sims for closer is fair.
