Castillo throws to wild ones to Heyward to go behind 2-0, then 3-0, then 3-2, and then throws a great pitch that just dips below the zone and Heyward takes it for ball 4. If he just wouldn't have started out 2-0, he would have been fine and saved himself about 6 pitches!

Castellanos not to good the last 2 days on ball security after he has the ball in the glove!

Started to say something along the same lines. Wasn’t quite sure how to articulate it. Just feels like he’s not going to locate pitches about 2-3x a game, and those wind up being fatal. People don’t typically string a bunch of hits and manufacture runs against him.

Honestly splitting four with the Cubs is the absolute best we could possibly hope for with this team. This is just who they are. If things go REALLY well they might have a chance to sneak in with 27-29 wins this year. I still think there’s hope of that. But translated to a 162 game season the Reds are like a 75-ish win team. Very very meh.

Today is the kind of day I would have asked Mrs. Tucker if she’d like to take in a ballgame. Mid 70’s, low humidity, blue sky. Get a big smoky, cold beer, boo the Cubs. I really miss going to ballgames.

I saw something in the last couple weeks about the Reds submitting a plan to the state to allow a small number of fans back in for the last month of the season and I haven’t heard anything else about it since.

they are definitely increasing by the day.

He had a rough patch last year too with HRs, but that was over a 162 game season and not 60. The latter certainly makes your lows stick out more.

Even if you got a good offer?

What would you have in mind or propose?

Not a slobber knocker with a ton of pieces - what would a good get for Luis be?

I like to come up with a trade proposal as much as anyone but any return I can think of would never be accepted.

You better get a *really* good offer for Castillo. He’s the kind of guy you trade for.

Shogo is a little unsteady under fly balls.

I'd expect more than 75 out of 162, but totally agree they haven't been deserving of a playoff spot thus far. Just can't get out of their own way long enough to get on a roll. The record they have is partly propped up by 7 inning games too.

my outfield if I was manager would be

RF - Castellanos

I would find a way to get Shogo in the lineup several times a week.

Offense in MLB is about the long ball in 2020....the better teams are able to get a guy or two on when they hit the long ball, but it still seems like most runs come from the ball going over the fence. I want as many guys in my lineup that are likely to hit a HR as possible. Guys like Payton, Shogo and Tucker really do not fit that model.

Castellanos gets away with swinging at some bad ones. He’s aggressive and when he makes contact the ball flies. If he tries to be more selective he’d probably suffer. His style, not too many players can get away with it.

Yes, but the other approach is to have more guys who can hit. Reds right now lack hitting depth.

The lineup is weak after hitter 5. Shogo getting on track would help, Senzel returning would help.

Hard to have a really good offense without 7 or 8 guys contributing substantially.

A lot of these newer stadiums which have small outfield just do not seem to allow a traditional style of baseball or run creation. There are very small areas of green that a hitter can hit the ball without a fielder getting there....and then the shifts have even diminished the field even more. I think hitters have just realized they a better off trying to hit it in the one place a fielder is unable to catch it. Not my preference either....but not sure how it goes back in the other direction.

Again, to me, this offense is problem #1. Every team we play has the same approach. Throw the Reds lots of breaking balls and let them get themselves out. The bullpen is a wreck but none of us are surprised by that. But the offense has too many proven guys to still be struggling to score more than 3 runs.
