Nick Senzel will begin working out at Prasco Park today. David Bell said it'll take time for him to get back into playing shape, but that's good news.

Bell said he doesn't see anything changing with Raisel Iglesias' role. Archie Bradley is probably the next man up when Iglesias is unavailable.

From here on out Bell needs to be managing like every game is game 7 of the World Series.

Were Reds able to add Goodwin and Bradley to the forty because of Senzel?

I thought they went over by one player. Guessing Senzel doesn’t count while on the special IL.

So when he returns they need to drop a guy from 40?

They didn't add anyone when they DFA'd Ervin IIRC. That left them one under.

Let’s see what the Reds do

This team has enough talent that they shouldn’t be about to be 6 games under .500. after 36 games.

It’s the managers job to get his guys prepared and ready to play each day. I see one team on the field that consistently is and one that very often isn’t.

Castellanos' AB is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

why did the runner not run?

This is an example why you need an umpire, and the electronics to call the pitches that go thru the zone. The ump had to judge whether he swung or not, and if the ball hit the batter. Both happened and it was a dead ball when it hit the batter, so play is dead. But it is a strikeout for the swing and miss.

The crazy thing is , the front office thought it was best to BUY at the trade deadline.
I am not going to criticize what they gave up, it was scraps.
But I kind of have a problem that they thought we were one bullpen arm and one bat away from being a contender.
Dick Williams is not seeing the same team we are, and simply "doubled down".

Time and again, they face these "must win" moments and they crumble.

To be fair, I dont understand the fire Krall and Williams thing. They went out and got proven players. Those proven players are crapping the bed. It seems the Reds are playing this season exactly how it was put together. The approach to every game is bad. I dont like David Bell and would start there with change. But I think Williams and Krall did exactly what we all wanted this offseason and went out, spent money, and improved this team on paper. Unfortunately it hasnt transferred onto the diamond.

Yes, we wouldn’t be saying any of this if Sonny Gray had been himself tonight.

Shogo and Miley have been major disappointments. The bullpen was ignored. The big bulllpen acquisition, Strop, was quickly dumped.

I don't know what's up with Mike Moustakas. I hope he is playing hurt, because if he's in decline, that contract is going to handcuff us for a long time.
Sure ownership gave Williams some money to spend, but Williams spent a ton of money and the team really isn't that much better than last year, despite looking better on paper. He needs to be held accountable for that .

I think the Reds identified that they were behind in the pitching development and sabre department. I think steps have been taken to address that.

But development takes time, even in normal times. We've got new guys calling the drafting shots, and development was overhauled. But those steps take time. It's part of the reason they probably signed so many players, to bridge the gap until that system is churning out players.

Now as for why normally good veteran players all decided to go in the crapper at once, I have no idea.

I think there is a discussion about the players we should have targeted. There is some question about if a guy would come to Cincy, but I still think 99% of the time if our offer is stronger, we get the guy. Most thought we would target Gregorius and Grandal....and I personally wanted Ozuna. To compare...

Nick Catellanos - .254 BA | 10 HR | 24 RBI | .912 OPS
Marcell Ozuna - .286 BA | 8 HR | 23 RBI | .919 OPS

Tucker Barnhart - .180 BA | 1 HR | 6 RBI | .516 OPS
Yasmani Grandal - .228 BA | 4 HR | 14 RBI | .734 OPS

Freddy Galvis - .213 BA | 6 HR | 11 RBI | .731 OPS
Didi Gregorius - .283 BA | 5 HR | 19 RBI | .850 OPS

while the differences are not huge....when you dig into the numbers, I bet there is a 3+ game difference in there.

What frustrates me most as a Reds fan (even before 2020) is the seeming inevitability that down 1-0 or 10-0, we won't be able to get enough guys on base to stay in the game. We have too many guys who are only capable of doing one thing and in between that thing happening, we're just watching the other team play defense. Why can't we either find higher obp guys or coach the current guys into being more patient?

If Bell isnt fired after this game after making a couple deadline trades, and the team looking this bad, then the front office is okay with thier team so unprepared. This is on Bell and the coaches. They wont fire the players, if they still think they can get in the playoffs, a change needs done right after this game. I would be on the phone to Bruce Bochys agent and see if they can convince him out of retirement to see if he can get more out of this team, if not then Larkin. Somethong has to change, enough with acceptance of sucking every year. They hired the wrong guy. Yeah the weird thing about that is that Barnhart actually outhit Casali in team wins in 2018.

This year it's not even close, Casali enjoys something like a 200 point OPS advantage in his wins.

I recall coming into last season (I think) he was ranked as one of the worst in baseball....I only know that because I think Fangraphs began to include it, and it hurt his value. then I read last year, he was on good side of the list in baseball in pitch framing. Kind of makes me wonder if their ability to truly capture and analyze is solid.

I remember reading that Barnhart saw those numbers and start working really hard to improve.

You’d think after Sunday and Monday they’d come out and have a good game. I think losing is just accepted in that clubhouse.

Looks like Goodwin fits right in on this team.

I worry that Moustakas is just not having a bad season, but is on the downward trend

I think we should start the roster on a PED cycle immediately after this game

Votto has a 810 OPS.

That may be the reason nobody else would give him more that a one year deal. He has been bad.

Would have been nice if he had shown up when the season started.

Did a Tootblan happen? Can't watch.

He went 2-4 with homers in each of the two first games. It was later that he hit the skids.

I really feel like we had 10 runs in us if that rally would have continued

Yeah...down 30 and he gets doubled off because he thought ball was going to fall in

So he showed up for two days and the took the rest of the season off until he got benched.

Votto walks on 7 pitches....Castellanos wails at first pitch.

I’m ready to clean house with this organization.

Let the 3 worst pitchers we have finish this game.

Lose 15-1, fire Bell, Zinter and Williams

Might age well

The Reds look like a collection of individuals. There is no team. They need some leadership. The general manager and manager need to start actually leading. Being critical at the right time and focusing more on poor on field performances. They need to get in some players who don't accept that losing for 60% of the season is acceptable. Teams with less talent get far more out of what they have then the Reds ever seem able to do. Stop accepting extended mediocrity!

Sounds nice on paper :)

Who did show up? The idea is that people peak at different times. If Votto finishes the season solidly, good for him.

Feels so good being able to tune into this dumpster fire every night. We’re so lucky to have the great David Bell. He’s such a baseball genius. Good thing fans aren’t allowed at the park, those 20 fans per game wouldn’t matter anyway.

David Bell is a baseball genius. Can you imagine how bad this team would be without his stellar managerial skills?

Been watching the Padres recently and that team is fun to watch. Hustle, slapping the ball the other way against the shift, energy, confidence, first to third on the bases...they're fun to watch right now.
