Aquino due for blast. Garcia was being tortured with curve balls. Akiyama hitting well. Hope Moustakas recovers soon as he’s missed considerable time from hbp.

The Reds really must not be happy with Galvis at SS. Farmer at short and Galvis at 2B. I think this explains Garcia.

Yep, Garcia fields really well. Just needs work on his hitting and would not be surprised to see him in AAA next spring. Reds will be in the market for SS this winter I would guess and missing on Iglesias last year was another FO mistake.

Just work on hitting? The most difficult thing in sports is to be proficient in hitting in baseball.

Yes, work on hitting. Dave Concepcion was a 200 hitter when he arrived. Even Akiyama is showing how work is paying off after terrible start. Garcia has never played above high A ball! He needs work.

IMO, you're wrong about Farmer. He was a very solid defensive IF as an amateur. LA had him learn to catch to increase versatility and maybe make his bat acceptable for the position. . He's a good defensive infielder. His bat is a little light, but he has some pop.

People hold the fact that he's been a Catcher against him and think he can't play elsewhere. It's actually the opposite. He was asked to Catch because he is good enough to do it.

Very versatile. Good player to have on the club actually and Reds need more than can come off the bench and contribute.

Other than Garcia, he's easily the best defensive IF on the roster. That's not saying much because the infield is awful. The OF has the terrible defensive rep (and it may be deserved) but those guys are Clemente, Mays and Bonds compared to these guys in the IF.

I was just taking exception to the word "just", like it's a matter of fact. Like just working on it is going to insure he becomes proficient. Like someone said, their baseball career ended at 16 with the curve ball they couldn't hit! Of course, work on it, but that is no guarantee of success.

Farmer is decent with the glove at spots that are hard to fill. But his bat is not "a little light." It's bad.

Career 71 OPS+
25.1 K rate, 4.9 BB rate. That's pitcher territory.

With Garcia and Stephenson up, he serves little purpose on this roster.

Exactly. I'm fine with his glove. I like the versatility it adds. But his bat does nothing. I keep waiting for...something...anything...to justify him being on the roster. Really they should have given his role to Alex Blandino, at least we could finally see if he's a keeper.

Reds should be adding a better MI for next season, especially if they move Moose more onto the corners, which they should.

Garcia is a professional and Reds had him in spring training this year and he hit well. He obviously has talent. He "just" needs the ABs in the minors would be my idea/guess as hitting A ball pitching and hitting Wainwright is not in the same universe. Of course he could flop and let's hope he doesn't as the club needs a SS badly.

So Farmer's SS today because he's Babe Ruth compared to Garcia and Ozzie Smith compared to Galvis. I do think Galvis is a good glove at 2B. Defensively, he's a lot like Peraza from what I see.

Galvis is having a mess of a walk year, I’ll give you that. Thought he’d pull together a solid defense/best offense of his career-type season. Honestly I’m fine with Farmer over Galvis I just think that in 2021 it will be time for some new blood. Barnhart, Farmer, Ervin, etc. these guys don’t bring anything “plus” to the field and aren’t spring chickens anymore.

I like him on the team as a last guy on the bench who can play a lot of spots. I don't like him as a regular. Though I might prefer him to Barnhart behind the plate, but Stephenson should have that job and Casali is better.

I’m not a huge Bell fan but our lineup is dog crap. Nobody could win win these guys. The front office deserves more of the blame. Their transactions the last two years are almost as laughable as their drafts.

Disagree. The transactions were good. It's the performance and execution that's awful. Every one of these guys on the offensive side are performing way below their career norms. We all thought it was a good team on paper in the spring. And we were right. They've come out and laid an egg. It's on the players, not Williams and not really even Bell!

Sims way overworked there, donít know what Bell was thinking.

Terrible.

Heís clearly gased and leaves him in for the lefty then brings in AG for the righty. Sigh...

The Cardinals are nicely lucky against the Reds but their plate approaches and understanding what the pitcher is trying to do is light yearís ahead of the Reds organization and prep crew. Itís as if they know every single thing and tendency about us but Reds just know some of their tendencies. Like the Cardinals are all future managers and Reds have amnesia

IMO MM and NC were two guys that 29 other teams wouldn’t give a multi year deal and we were desperate enough to sign them. Shogo is just a flat out bust with his swing. Strop is gone and Miley barely showed up. I bought into it as much as anybody and I was wrong.

Bell's pitching decisions worked out to mitigate the damage in the 4th, but blew up in his face in the 6th, from the start by leaving Sims in there after all those high stress pitches in the 4th to mitigate the damage.

I just hope this team looks a lot different next year. 4-5 starters weíd be a lot better without. And Dugout Dunce as well.

It probably will not look much different unless they try to move contracts with little value.

C - Stephenson?
1B - Votto
2B - Moose
3B - Geno
SS - Garcia
LF - Winker
CF - Senzel
RF - Castellanos
4th OF - Shogo

most of those feel locked in unless they are traded

I don’t think Garcia is remotely locked in at SS. He probably needs another year in the minors. It really pains me to say that, but it’s true.

Take a look at the career numbers for MM and NC. Put that in this lineup along with ES's career numbers and you've got yourself a good offense. Instead we have 3 guys struggling to hit above .200

1 hit off Dakota freakin Hudson.
1 hit.
I love it.

The Reds and David Bell deserve every drop of every blow out.
There are VERY FEW scenarios where Amir Garrett should be put in the situation of ever facing Goldy.
And this was definitely not one of those situations.
I can only imagine how good this team could have been if they had a Joe Maddon, Boone, Yost, Kevin Cash, Bob Melvin, or even a Dusty Baker.
David Bell just has no clue what so ever how to put his players in a position to succeed.
It’s like he’s so far behind the 8-ball you wonder how he ever got the job anyway?
His all time record at all levels speaks for itself.

hard with Votto and Moose contract....I think they will try to compete through the remainder of Votto's contract. I just wonder if they have the stomach to go out and spend a little more this offseason, or will they just tinker to make it look like they made changes/additions

I agree that they’ll try to win through Vottos contract. I just disagree with that decision. We have had a losing season every year if his newest contract and he’s still eating up a big chunk of the payroll and he’s a replacement level player now. We have too many holes to win on a small market budget. We’re just hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.

Still hard to believe we’re going to miss out on this expanded playoff format. Almost everyone makes it. I had such high hopes. I knew better. I still took the bait.

This team is dysfunctional from the top down. Organization needs a major overhaul.

And if Bell returns, I will not watch this team next season.

The talk around baseball was that this team could win the Central. I think the players they brought in were definite upgrades, but established second-tier major leaguers. Not a Lindor or Ichiro (who is?) And too much of the short season had too much of the same Van Meter, Ervin, Casali and Farmer as last year, plus Davidson and Jankowski (sorry guys). Where’s that robust A lineup?

The Reds have about $200MM in bad contracts with no no chance to win anything other than maybe maybe maybe a wild card. Castellini has to decide if he wants to throw good money after bad money or eat it and rebuild.

I like how Redszone will flip between "leave a guy in if he's getting outs" and "you should always take a guy out too early rather than too late!" depending on whichever call is made.

Our pitchers just can't stop getting owned by Harrison Bader. 3 HRs on the year, all against us.

I agree. The Reds should have a decent offense. But they need a great offense to compensate for the lousy bullpen and defense that this team also has.

Bell is not getting fired. I have never been a fan, but I have zero expectations that it will even be considered. not being rude, but this is a fan message board....I have been to many, and they all have a wide range of opinions and they all are very emotional. It is guys (and gals) that want to win so bad, and have zero control over the outcome. If you are looking for 100% rational conversation or a discussion lacking contradictions, a fan message board is not the place it will be found....not just RZ but any team board when things are not going well. Fans use these boards because they can celebrate together, and also whine together....it is an outlet.

Part of the issue is that the "A lineup" hasn't played many games together. Every time you look around, a starter is out for one reason or another. The biggest issue though is they just haven't performed consistently. One guy gets hot, everybody else goes cold.

I'm convinced that this season has impacted some of them mentally more than others, which may explain their performance. I'm basing that on a lot of stars across the league struggling this year.

Also, I think the Reds were one of those teams that needed time to figure things out. Unfortunately, this season made that impossible.

I think they're worn down mentally and can't get out of their own way.

I’ll agree some of these guys are having bad seasons but there are question marks On all of them. Maybe it’s not a bad season, maybe it’s the end for them. The Reds have a losing culture. Read the players comments. We’re a good team we just haven’t gotten hot. Look a what we could do if we’re all clicking. At some point you need to show people you can win. We’re just trying to make excuses for them and I’ve been as guilty of it as anybody.

Reds first 3 pitchers had very good ERAs, and each allowed multiple earned runs and the two relievers of them allowed 3 of their 5 inherited runners to score, and still all 3 have ERAs between 2.8 and 3.4.

Please believe me when I say I don't mean to be rude either but...

I'm lucky enough to remember when RedsZone was More than just another fan messages board.

I feel safe in saying that I am most likely older than most members here, with a whole lot less knowledge of computers or the internet.

My love for the Cincinnati Reds and baseball in general caused me to fool around on my daughter's computer in search of anything I could find to read about the Reds and MLB.

My daughter suggested I type in reds.com and go from there.
After doing so I stumbled on the old Reds Fan Forum, at first I enjoyed reading the thoughts, the hopes and ideas of other Reds fans. I soon found out that people there would make things up in order to support their narrative whatever that might be and other people would believe it.

I was about to give up on my quest to read everything I could about the Reds and baseball on the world wide web when my daughter did a search and found RedsZone for me to read instead of the foolishness that was on MLB message boards.

I think I lurked here about 2 years, I was fascinated and a bit intimidated but I was learning new things that I never knew that I never knew about the game it's self.

Sadly things have come full circle and RedsZone has become just another fan message board.
