Hum.

The unusual site of a pitcher pulling out a piece of paper on the mound has become a conversation starter for Cishek, who has been asked many times if he's carrying scouting report information around. But Cishek is used to explaining the unexpected. He often finds himself clarifying why he has the name "Manuel Domingos" stitched on his glove instead of his own. It is the name of his grandfather, who passed away in 2003.

No he beat up a fan (he was missing a hand and fingers). But apparently back then this was a far more common occurrence. Babe Ruth also assaulted a fan, for example.

And as far as his views on race, it seems like the most of those were completely made up. Considering the time period in which he was raised and the fact that he came from Georgia, one could almost call him progressive.

First Reds SS to hit 20 HRs

My dad took me to a Reds game at Crosley Field against the Dodgers. Cardenas hit a game winning HR in the bottom of the 9th to win 7-6. As a 12 year old, I totally lost my mind. I still remember the ball splashing against the LF screen. They had knocked Sandy Koufax out of the game.

You are correct, I can vaguely remember the games being on - my dad would turn the TV in my room onto the ball games when I went to bed. But I had no grasp of it.

I slowly started becoming more of a fan through the 90’s, culminating into diehard fandom around 1999 and especially when Junior came to town.

I remember thinking during the 2000 season “gosh, they haven’t won it all since 1990? That’s so long ago!” And now, 10 years would put them at having won it all in 2010 which would practically feel like yesterday.

I am old and my folks took me to Dodgers v Reds to see Drysdale, etc. I'm couple years younger than you and I was pulling your leg on that particular game:D. I miss Fields like Old Crosley and to that end I've traveled to Chicago and Boston and around to see some old parks. One of my best friends played 18 years in MLB back in 60s-70s-80s and I asked him other day if Forbes Field and Crosley and others when he played were junky and he said yes. I will say, the Sox didn't really bother with running major league ready pitching out there for most of the night. But what the pitching staff, especially Malhe, did against their lineup is the real deal. Big time kudos and well done to Mahle, Antone, and even Romano in mopup.
