Four players, who have hit 400 or more Major League home runs, have played for the Reds & played for the White Sox in their career. Who are they?

Lorenzen goes tomorrow, right? They're going to need all the help they can get. Given that, I understand the idea behind turning it over to Stephenson down 2-0 and hoping he can come through. He didn't.

The worst thing that could have happened was to blow your best RPs, have nothing to show for it and start tomorrow at a disadvantage. Sometimes you have to take calculated risks.

Antone threw 42 pitches yesterday. I wouldn't assume he'll be a go tomorrow, but if he is, you shouldn't be expecting much.

Garrett, Bradley and Iglesias can cover 4 innings if everything goes right. What happens if Lorenzen starts showing signs of losing it in the 3rd or 4th?

Bottom line, I wouldn't have gone all-in tonight when you didn't have a good hand.

I’m just sayin when you run you best lineup (or a pretty damn good one) out and you don’t score, the game was never winnable. Be glad the better relievers are rested for tomorrow. The offense stunk today and there was no overcoming that.
I think part of the problem here, and the reason for some hostility, is that certain peoples are more invested in certain players than they are the Reds organization. And that’s fine, but coming to a Reds board and browbeating them will draw pushback.

This one hurts, many missed opportunities and no run support for your ace who pitched his ass off, followed by our former top pitching prospect putting the game absolutely out of reach in spectacularly embarrassing fashion.

But with that said, regroup, come back and start another winning streak tomorrow. I hope.

Here's what you're missing jup. Today was not a win or go home game. The offense was flat tonight with 4 hits thru 7 innings. Tomorrow Lorenzen goes and may need lots of bullpen help. You don't burn your best relievers in the 8th inning of a game you're losing when the offense is flat. Unless it's a win or go home contest, which it isn't.

No one knows what will happen. But that cuts both ways.

Lets say Lorenzen walks out there and gives up a 5 spot in the 1st tomorrow - more winnable than tonight ???

You only can play one game at a time. One pitch at a time, One at bat at a time. And you have to bread a culture of intensity where there is a SOLE FOCUS on what you can control, which is the present.

Waiting for tomorrow is what got the Reds where they are today, begging for scraps rather than at the top of the heap. And you can call me a jilted Bauer fan if you like, no sweat off my back, but at some point the Reds have to look at themselves in the mirror and decide what they want to be. You are at a disadvantage because you are not close enough to the dugout to really understand it and I realize that. So I don't denigrate your opinion because of it. But that doesn't mean I am going to back down just because someone thinks I am some jilted fan going off.

The Reds have a problem. Have had a problem. And it is going to take a real effort to change the culture to what it needs to be. And management needs to send the right messages as to what that culture needs to be. And waiting for tomorrow isn't it.

It is always amazing how things seem to work out tomorrow. The sky very rarely falls. You take care of today and expect that you have players that will step up tomorrow. And that expectation pulls them forward into being able to fill the shoes they need to fill.

Nope not at all. But there is other ways that information associated with the dugout, clubhouse and culture surfaces Kal. And maybe you are privy to that kind of information also.

Yes it is colored by the lenses it comes through, but that is always true of information. And knowing those lenses makes it pretty easy to read biases and the like.

Love your comment about a problem afoot - the problem is the train wreck the Reds have been - doesn't take inside information to figure that one out. Just look at their record of the last few years. I swear David Bell must read "Coaching for Dummies" because he makes such insane decisions. Let me see....Leave the hottest hitter I have who is getting on base like crazy out of the lineup because they are starting a lefty. Of course he has hot lefty's in Japan for years and is just now finding his stroke, and we pay him $7M a year to Platoon. Next chapter, late in a game I can only warm up one reliever at a time and when the guy on the mounf gets in trouble, we have to leave him in while we get another one warmed up. Bunt to him is a type of cake.

I have never seen a team of hitters with such a lack of plate discipline and situational hitting in over 40 years. Garcia is great with his glove, but he cannot pull outside sliders, Hell he cannot even make contact with them! Someone need to tell him to try to hit everything to right as they are throwing him outside and letting him flail away.

Overall a complete joke, with the starting pitching this team has gotten, they should be up with the Cubs.

Iím no Freddy Galvis superfan but come on...

Have you been watching this team play infield this year? People talk about the OF, but the IF is worse. I'd argue that Castellanos is a better RF than Galvis is a SS. People called Galvis the defensive infielder on the team because the rest of the IF was Votto, Moose/VanMeter and a very disappointing Suarez.

Garcia's play at SS has improved the team significantly IMO. I wish they had an alternative, but they really don't.

Stephenson should have been converted to the pen earlier in his career. By the time Reds made the move, his fastball declined. He always threw fly balls, but now he’s heavily dependent on breaking balls.

His breaking pitches are good and normally he’s better than last night. But without a more effective fastball, it’s tough against hitters like the Chisox. They know what to expect, what to swing at, etc.

IMO Reds were too focused on every good arm becoming a starter. They were often late to make the switch. Economics, probably. I sense today with the new coaching, maybe that is changing (e.g., TJ Antone). As for Bob Steve it’s probably time for him to move on.

I agree that there is a culture problem, but I think the exact opposite is true. This team has a collection of players who aren't used to winning. When there is something to play for, or when something goes wrong, they all seem to try to win the game with one swing. That's when we see guys like Jesse Winker, with a Career OPS well over .800 swinging from one knee and going 0 for 23. I agree they need a culture change, but they need cool confidence that allows them to play their game under pressure and stop all of this pressing they seem to be doing. Other than Bauer, the only guy with a little of that is Moustakas and he seems to be pressing as well. I think he'd be a better all around player if he could play 1B or move back to 3B. The rest of the roster is either kids (Garcia, Stephenson, Aquino even Senzel), guys who've been through a lot of losing here (Votto, Suarez, Winker, Barnhart) or guys who have been every day guys on losing teams elsewhere (Castellanos, Galvis).

Shogo, Casali and Goodwin are guys who don't seem to press as much and I think the team looks better when they are out there.

I mean ya, 53 is not sustainable, but 20 might be with his arsenal. Thatís not all luck what he was throwing yesterday. XFIP is a great guide, but I donít buy it normalizing one this case. Itís really hard to get an xfip more than like 5.50, but many guys are worse than that bc of their lack of command and spin rate.
