Let's now get at least one of the runs tonight without the aid of a HR!

I'm not rooting against a home run.

One of the reasons tonight's game is SO important, other than the obvious 'every game is important' esp right now...With Sonny coming off the DL tomorrow, this gives a hair (and a tiny hair) in case the Sonny from the last two starts shows up.

But let's hope he's healthy and rested and sharp tomorrow!

Crazy how we are talking about the Marlins like they walk on water. They have a history of stink lately, so what makes us think because we have 3 games in hand, they won't start choking their final games? So much can happen at end with so many fragile teams. This is such a cool playoff chase to experience.. is my point!

Casali is slashing .219 .375 .484 coming into tonight.

That is not bad for a catcher at all.

And he's not a negative behind the plate, and he seems to call games well.

is there logic to why catchers are poor hitters.....growing up I would always hear about Bench...then guys like Carlton Fisk, Gary Carter, Benito Santiago, Sandy Alomar Jr., Mike Scioscia, Pudge, Darren Daulton, Mike Piazza, etc. always seemed like good hitters....but maybe not, I do not recall their numbers. Now it seems more rare for a Catcher to be a good hitter.

I mean Brett Anderson vs Sonny Gray tomorrow. There’s a chance Williams/Hader won’t pitch in this series till Game 3. Down a run in a “playoff” game and the Brewers turn to this guy in a one run game? I like it but it’s a headscratcher.

Now it seems more rare for a Catcher to be a good hitter.

They have a very specialized skill set, which really limits the pool of who can do it. They have to do a ton of work with the pitching staff in addition to honing their offensive skills, they're basically secondary managers on the team. So you have less players to develop into those big hitting stars.

The time period you're talking about spans thirty years. Since then we've had plenty of big hitting catchers. Mauer, Posey, Molina, Posada, McCann, probably Realmuto if he keeps his career on track.

Also it's 1 inning and a 5-run game.

But Garcia is 22 years old and came up directly from A ball. With a big lead it’s less important, yes. But it’s the kind of spot where a young kid might struggle. I think that’s the Reds reasoning on this.

Chocolate milk, a little Sesame Street (on her Tablet - pops takes over the TV when The Reds are on) and a Reds win. No better way to send a kid to bed.

And frankly, I’m putting an asterisk next to our lone loss. I blame the whole thing on a combination of AJ Pierzynski, the Pittsburg skyline and Robert Stephenson.

You cannot mess with this routine now. Too much is on the line.

And when we eventually win the World Series, you need to buy that little girl a Reds onesie or something.

The Reds do well when they play their games in On Paper mode. I just hope they don’t accidentally turn off the system while the autosave icon is on screen and lose these settings.

No worries, the routine is here to stay. My wife knows how superstitious I am with baseball. She has accepted it.

She has several Reds onesies and/or shirts, she grows so fast I’m not sure if any of them fit at the moment. She’s 97th percentile in height (!) for her age. I’ll have to check into that...

Used situational vs Lefty. I don't know his stats vs lefties but if good this may work. IRRESPECTIVE...he's got to do better than those two. If Gray, Castillo, Bauer, roll for playoff rotation then Mahle can be used in pen as well.

Baseball's funny.

Remember the 2010 season after the Lost Decade.

That year started off pretty slow - then poof 6 weeks into the year the team took off and wound up winning the division with ease.

And here we are this year - 6-7 weeks in (coupled with no real spring training).....and off they go?

This 60 week season is really working for the Reds. The thing about building a starting pitching staff is I measure their progress by how long they go through a season before they fall apart When they're all inexperienced it usually comes crashing by early July. Another season August. Then hopefully September and beyond. Other than Bauer, I don't think any Reds' starter ever pitched great into September. And I'm not sure they could've yet this year in a 162 schedule. So this 60 game season could turn out to be a real gift.

Former Arizona State SUNDEVIL, Mike Leake pitched well to start his career in 2010.

He pitched to a (5-0) record with 7 no-decisions. The Reds won 3 of the no-decisions, losing 4 with scores of 3-4, the famous May 20th loss 9-10 (Leake allowed 3 earned runs), 1-2, and the heartbreaking 0-1.

Leake’s first loss was June 16th.

Leake finished off 2010 with 8 more game starts ending with a record of (8-4) with 10 no decisions.

Leake completed 2010 with 24 game appearances ending 2010 with 2.

Leake was shut down August 25th.
