Not sure the trade market exists for a seldom used, 9th year RB with a 4.8M 2021 cap hit ($667,000 dead cap hit). You can find these types of 21-22 year old RBs in the 5th and 6th round. Maybe a restructured contract could have netted a 7th, but I seriously doubt it and Gio wasn't willing to rework his contract. Most RB's never make it to a 2nd contract let alone a third one as Gio did in Cinci

The Bengals mismanaged their mediocre RB room to have the highest 2021 cap number at 15.9M. Makes sense to clear 4M+ off that number with Mixon's 2021 hit rising to 8M. Hopefully the Gio freed up cap space will be put to use for other needs...

It reeks because you signed him to a bad contract to begin with sometimes these moves come back to haunt teams.

Gio was one of the few who stuck up for Taylor last season and now you want him to take a cut...football is a business but damn that's cold.

Gio was a good Bengal for a long time. He wasn't not a #1 back, and it was proven over and over again when he needed to be the starting back. They never should have signed him to a contract in the first place because his play didn't warrant it. He will latch on to a team, probably a good team as a 3rd down back. Good for him.

Will never forget the Thursday night run against the Dolphins. That was Barry Sanders-level.

They also would have beaten the Steelers in the playoffs if Gio hadn't been concussed. He was really important to the team for a long time.

The Phins run was incredible. Seemed he had limitless potential but never really materialized.

The very next draft the Bengals used a 2nd round pick on Jermey Hill after realizing Gio wasn't the every down solution - wow what an awful 2014 Bengals draft that one was... Then they did it again in the 2017 draft using another 2nd rounder on a RB. 2nd round NFL RB's are like first rounders at most other positions.

Great for Gio, 100% class act and he made $25M in his 8 years as a Bengal

But to assume he had any marketable trade value at his current contract is quite the stretch

Maybe he ends up coming back to Cinci at a reduced salary. He won't sniff anywhere close to a 1 yr/4.7M deal in 2021 elsewhere. Most competent NFL teams weed out RB's after their first contract ends

Well, Todd, I started wanting Chase back in January after I had run about 100 mock drafts and started becoming familiar with the depth at o-line and the lack of depth at WR in this draft. That was well before any unfounded Burrow rumors on what he wants were there. But, because you were such a whiny baby with draft talk last year, I have not really discussed that on this board. I want Chase because he is an extraordinary prospect with extraordinary production and testing all of which occurred while he was a teenager and because we can upgrade this line in this draft at 38 and/or 69 and are less likely to hit at WR at those spots in this draft as this draft is full of slot guys but less full of outside guys. Further, there is a gaping chasm of a need on this team in the WR room including the need for a starter at WR as the team completely did not address the position at all in FA which leads me to suspect they themselves have come to the same conclusions.

Thanks for asking, though.

Nah dude. He may have been one of your options but the hard-on you have for him now seems rather curious in terms of timing.

Also, I'd say our OL has more of a gaping hole especially after the team you love so much just shredded the future of the franchise.

Nah dude. I post on way more boards than this one. But keep on being an *******. You do you.

Chase's pro day was one of the best ever for a wide out so I can see why many including me are leaning that way...at the end of the day you have 3 really good choices to take at 5. Personally i think Tobin is leaning Chase judging by comments he has made about the OL prospects being very deep.

With Gio being cut I wonder if Bates and Hubbard get extended.
