Exactly. Luis was not pitching well because one again the manager of this team never had anyone ready to play. Too busy figuring out roster spots and who’s the 4-5 or now 6-7 starters since pitchers are too inept to handle 5 inning starts now.

Covid reduced innings or not you should have your opening day starter more ready than less of 10 innings pitched during ST.

I've been thinking this as I saw the other team's starters getting more innings. I think Bell sees it all as a game of chess. Oh, yes. He is so smart.

I'm guess now - but I think Bell is a terrible at firing up the team to go out and freaking WIN as well. They are all robots to him so they play like robots.

I feel like if the Reds are lucky, India might end up being closer to what Senzel was supposed to be than Nick is actually able to live up to. Kind of the way Votto surpassed Bruce despite their reputations as prospects.

Since Price their April records except for maybe 2014 they are terrible in April. Dusty at least had them at about 500 into May-June.

Senzel can’t hold Baldelli’s jock yet. Baldelli actually had productive seasons. Senzel has accomplished absolutely nothing yet.

I hate being right about this stuff. Should have traded Senzel the last two offseasons. After yet another injury he now has absolutely zero value. Dude is Brett Lawrie. Arm tats and all.

Pitchers not stretched out, fundamentals and game awareness lacking. Feels like too much of camp of late is "just getting the work in" rather than getting ready to play competitive games. Such slow starts in April, and echoes of that today.

I have noticed as well. Seems like it takes them an extra month and then they go on a run out of a hole.

We've signed major league players to come play here. Do they not question this? Do they get sucked into this culture? I don't see how players like castillo, etc aren't ready to go on their own.

To be fair to the Cards, I'm pretty sure they're the franchise that created the concept of a farm club with Branch Rickey. That culture is at the very core of St. Louis baseball from the beginning.

Paul Brown used to think professional players should motivate themselves more than him. Bob Trumpy wrote a good book describing that and then saying players needed Paul to motivate more during big games. So even back in the day where you though players took more responsibility on their own. They really didn’t.

Bell wanted 14 pitchers for a reason. I guess it’s because he knows no one is ready to go 5 starting

Yes you’re right. That’s were they go back to. Dodgers too.

Reds had that when Howsman came on. Then when Marge came and got rid of some great scouts. That disappeared and turned into nothing consistent especially in developing starting pitchers. You had the GM who wanted every player to take the 1st pitch. Stuff like that.

Moose to 1B, Suarez back to 3B and get a real SS, even if he can’t hit. Votto as the LH bat off the bench.

Maybe they could afford one, maybe not. But surely if you do not have a SS option in the entire organization, that is a pretty major oversight.
