Even when they hadn't broken through against Martinez in Game 3, they still had his pitch count at like 80 through 4 innings. Brantley says he was hoping to go to 3rd on the throw home, and when the SS didn't throw he planted to go back to 2nd, and slipped. The 1st baseman came to cover 2nd, the SS double clutched and still had time to pick him off. I don't know if the double clutch was because he didn't notice farmer in no mans land, or to wait for Moran's arrival for the tag. I'm watching the Pitt feed, and it didn't show the bag band the arrival of Moran to take the throw and make the tag. Did the Cincy feed show it?

Could maybe have even got the DP if he waited for India to get there, but didn't do that. Or maybe Votto knew it was a smart play to drop it, but didn't know the proper way to execute it for a DP, and was only trying to replace a fast runner on first with a pitcher!

I think he was trying to get the runner out at 2nd so that you had the pitcher at first. I don't think a double play was ever part of the plan.

It makes a big difference having India there in the middle infield. Moose was solid there, India is a clear upgrade, and Moose is better at 3B anyway.
