Oh yeah don’t get me wrong I definitely think it’s a step in the right direction for Castillo.


I also don’t think Suarez is gonna crack .200 again for the rest of the season either, I think if it goes on for a few more weeks longer they’re gonna need to find a reason to DL him so he can end up playing some rehab games down and Louisville and get his feet under him again to some degree. They can’t keep running him out there anyway if something doesn’t start turning around at least somewhat.

But his swing doesn’t necessarily look bad, it’s just more like he suddenly lost all pitch recognition skills. He just absolutely can’t lay off junk low and away anymore and it’s hard for me to connect the dots where the shoulder thing makes sense of that.

There’s also the fact that it hasn’t been mentioned at all since last year, I’d think if it were nagging whatsoever at all Bell or someone would’ve mentioned it to reporters.


I think the two biggest explanations are: 1) hitting 49 home runs really got to his head and he really does think he has to hit 50 since he just missed it in 2019, and 2) the move to shortstop and his issues there are following him to the plate and compounding the problem.

It would be extremely Reds luck though if one of their best ever home grown power hitters signed to an extremely team friendly contract just totally washed out dead in the middle of his prime due to some injury he got while messing around in a pool.
