Loath is a strong word, he is probably find as a utility guy while cheap. It's not his fault he is thrust into a starting role that he is I'll suited for

But I just don't get how he has so many real fans both here and on general while actual good players like Winker are detracted for years and become lightening rods.

I guess for a not athletic-looking backup catcher, he shows some athletic ability to play around the field. And he is sure handed and makes nice plays while not having the range to be an actually good SS.

All while being unable to do anything with the bat, from make contact to walk to hit for power (he has a rep of having some power, but if he does it doesn't show up in the game)

Basically a fridge guy who is liked because he is a scrappy guy from the country I suppose.

Santillan is from Arlington, Texas, and graduated from Seguin High School -- named for Juan Seguín, a hero in the Texas Revolution. (Notice that Seguín's name uses the accent, but the school named for him does not.)

Several years ago, i had to provide phonetic spellings to the media for our local high school football team when they made the OHSAA playoffs. Most of them were easy, but our best offensive lineman (he eventually played at Mount Union) had a Greek last name. (Five syllables!) It took a while for me to figure out how to get it just right, and to get the stressed syllable in the right place!
