As I understood it, the interview with Price indicated that was how it was done while he was manager.

I don't think there was more to it than that implication, as far as I know.

Actually, he was arguing with an umpire who didn't make the call, which makes me think the umpire said something to him as he was walking away. Because he turned right around and went straight to the plate umpire. (The 3rd base umpire made call on the check swing.)

Can't say I'm really shocked that Santillan and Gutierrez pooped their pants in San Diego. I'm more dismayed with lack of any sense of urgency since Game 1. I know it's easier to say this when the other team is scoring runs and winning but it just seems like SD is more serious about putting together good ABs while the Reds just kind of lumber along.

The fact is, Votto was walking back to the dugout and voicing his displeasure in a relatively calm manner. It wasn't a big deal, but apparently the home plate umpire wanted to instigate things and/or thinks the fans are there to see him.
