The Rookie with 2 PAs and no power hitting 5th. I'm glad he's in the line-up, but after Votto that is one weak hitting group.

** After Castellano's. I'd bat Lopez ahead of Votto or move Lopez to the 2 hole and move Winker and Cast down

Moving Lopez would screw up Bell's plug and play OCD based lineup. It can't be two RR or two LL next to each other because somehow that would give away the Reds advantage.

I know *****ing about the lineup is standard procedure, but Jesus Christ, it's enough already.

Reds are scoring 4.97 Runs/Game which is second in the NL behind the Dodger. And they've been even better in June (5.07 R/G).

The Reds are on pace to score the most runs as a team, since 2005. They have a great offense.

Some of you need to relax, because I think you're going to have a heart attack before we get to August.

I know for a fact that this lineup hasn’t played one game together, so no. Do you think that’s a solid 5-8?

CaiGuy
06-30-2021, 04:43 PM
They aren't all in there tonight, but besides the big two, Votto, Naquin, Barnhart, Stephenson, and India have been about average or better at the plate this year. And of course Moustakas when healthy. Aquino is solid off the bench.

The thinness of the lineup is way overstated.

They aren't a .500 team because they are "only" scoring the 2nd most runs in the league. It's because they give up even more than they score.

If you want to see a thin lineup, look at the much heralded Milwaukee.

I haven’t seen this before.

Usually, Reds players just take ground balls off a fungo bat. Today, Alejo Lopez and Mike Freeman are taking live grounders at third in a soft-toss setup, which is more game like.

Reds have a winning record or .500 vs 12 of the 15 teams they have played this year.
Losing record vs Diamondbacks, Giants and Padres

Reds 39-39

2-16 vs AZ-SF-SD
37-23 vs rest MLB

Run differential
-55 vs AZ-SF-SD (64-119)
+52 vs rest MLB (324-272)

I posted on this earlier today.

Using Lopez instead of Suarez a few times a week makes good sense. Suarez has 320 PAs in the first half season, too many given his struggles at the plate.

I’m glad Bell made that move for tonight. I couldn’t care less where Lopez hits in the batting order.

5-9 hitters very weak indeed, and Musgrove is a good pitcher.

I was 12 in 1982. I was only 5 and 6 years old for the 1975 & '76 World Champions. I remember that they were good, and I knew who some of the players were at that age, but I don't really remember the team on the field. I have watched the World Series games since then (I have the 1975 Series on DVD), and I love watching them -- I really appreciate them as a team. But I have no first-hand memories of them. My earliest first-hand memories of the Reds are of Pete's 44-game hitting streak in 1978.

That's why I say that "my team" is the 1990 team. I respect and venerate the BRM, but I lived and died with the 1990 team.

Idk what more they need to see to make a move. How many games has the bullpen blown & singlehandedly lost? It’s enough that the Reds would be in first place rn with just an average pen, IMO. Time to post in the Iglesias tracker thread. Dear Bob C you’ll never believe what happened to me during the season of 2021.

If they don't finish the game tonight, they will resume tomorrow, finish it, then the regularly scheduled game will be 7 innings, which would really help the Reds.

Yeah. Gives us time to fix the bullpen.

While that was a tragedy, I was a kid living nearby and had a blast picking up all the softball size hail after that. We had a freezer full of them for awhile.

All three hubbub about that tornado is what steered me into meteorology. I was not-quite-4 when it struck. Still have a distinct memory about that day too.

I foresee a move to the OF in Tatis' future -- probably in the next three years.

Probably so but shoulder injury has to affect his throwing and most errors have been on throws.

That Castellanos ball took a big hop and hit his outreached glove weirdly…..not sure many make that play and get Castellanos out. Gueeing 1/3 of SS don’t get to that ball….on other end once Castellanos reached not sure how many SS could’ve finished that DP with a throw like that.

He’s not Jose Iglesias or Andrelton Simmons but feel he can still play the position as years go on.

I grew up in Xenia and watched the tornado from our basement window. It’s something that you’ll never forget.

a team has beaten you 5 games in a row. you get up 4-0 on them.

and you still piss it away.

good times. would be great to follow a team with some grit.

or a good ownership group. ok, i'd take the latter for sure.

Only John Wayne had true grit.

Don't wait around, come back and start at 4pm tomorrow, get another less than mediocre pitcher up from Louisville for the day, and see what happens with two less innings to cover in the full game tomorrow.

Are we sure that this game gets suspended if it is not resumed? Everything I'm finding on the internet indicates that it is an official game.

:) I was thinking it would be 2 less bullpen innings to cover tomorrow.
The 7 inning games really favor the Reds.. especially if the starter can go 6.

From MLB.com:

Prior to the 2020 season, if a game was terminated early due to weather before becoming official, the results up to the point of the termination did not count and the game was started over at a later date. But as part of MLB's health and safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, all games cut short due to weather before becoming official were resumed at a later date, rather than started over from scratch, during the 2020 campaign.

The rules below remained in place.

If a regulation game is terminated early due to weather, the results are considered final if the home team is leading. If the home team is trailing, the results are considered final if the game is not in the midst of an inning when the visiting team has taken the lead.

If they don't finish the game tonight, they will resume tomorrow, finish it, then the regularly scheduled game will be 7 innings, which would really help the Reds.

A game is considered a regulation game -- also known as an "official game" -- once the visiting team has made 15 outs (five innings) and the home team is leading, or once the home team has made 15 outs regardless of score.
f a regulation game is terminated early due to weather, the results are considered final if the home team is leading. If the home team is trailing, the results are considered final if the game is not in the midst of an inning when the visiting team has taken the lead.

If a regulation game is terminated early due to weather and the game is either tied or in the midst of an inning in which the visiting team has taken the lead, it becomes a suspended game that will be completed at a later date from the point of termination.
https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/regulation-game

So they have played 5 innings it should be considered a final score.

I’d never seen a greenish-yellow sky before. One look at that told you it was going to be really bad.

Been through three of them now fairly close to where I lived. That's how it has looked every time. It's really eerie.

When's the last time a team so thoroughly owned the Reds like the Padres have this season? At least the Reds won a game against SF and ARI this year.

Bullpen was overworked last night due to a similar start from Santillan. Not really any good choices here.

San Diego is asking the Reds:

Who’s your Padre?

Phone died and i missed the 5th. Curious question though. If Bell knew the rules, and also knew a massive weather front was imminent....why wouldn't he treat the 5th like the 9th?
Like I said, I wasn't following.....but from what I heard it did sound like everyone knew heavy rain was coming. Thanks.

because the rules have changed and games don't get called after 5 innings. have to play a full 9.

They haven’t built the weather forecast into the algorithms that dictate Bell’s moves yet. I say this as someone who still plays baseball for fun and builds algorithms
