Good to see India back, and I'm not surprised Winker is out.

He didn't look great last night, especially near the end of the game. He also could use a little rest.

Other than at catcher, this is about the best defensive lineup the Reds can field.

This is where the new guy, Lopez, could gain playing time if he could handle corner OF.

A switch hitting super utility man would be very useful, playing most positions against both types of pitching. Instead Reds have two LHH, Naquin and Shogo, against the LHP.

Something for the future.

I can’t complain about Naquin in the lineup regardless of pitching. He’s gotten it done better than most of us expected at a high rate.

Shogo is a different thought though

I am gonna paste the paragraphs on Tudor’s bonkers 1985 season. Check this out:

“Tudor's career highlight was a spectacular 1985 season for the St. Louis Cardinals. Oddly enough, Tudor started that year with a 1-7 record and a 3.74 earned run average through May. He then went on a 20-1 run with a 1.37 ERA the rest of the season and lowering his overall ERA to 1.93. According to Tudor, the change in performance came from a phone call from his former high school catcher, who, after watching Tudor on TV, had noticed a hitch in his delivery that he had not seen Tudor have before. Tudor concluded the season by winning his last eleven decisions. Only the best season of Dwight Gooden's career stopped Tudor from winning the National League Cy Young Award and leading the league in ERA, wins and complete games. He was sixth in strikeouts for the year.

Moreover, Tudor's ten complete game shutouts in 1985 made him the only pitcher since Jim Palmer in 1975 to reach double-digits in that category. (Bob Gibson holds the Cardinal record with 13 in 1968). To make the achievement more impressive, his ten shutouts were all in the last four months of 1985. To date, Tudor is the last Major League player to record ten or more shutouts in a season. The most since then is eight, by Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser and Boston pitcher Roger Clemens in 1988 and Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Tim Belcher in 1989.

The Cardinals were in the heat of a division race against Gooden and the New York Mets in September 1985. Tudor improved even more by starting the month with two consecutive shutouts and then pitched against Gooden himself in a matchup on September 11. Gooden and Tudor locked horns pitch-for-pitch and the score was 0-0 after nine innings. Jesse Orosco took over for Gooden in the tenth inning and gave up a home run to César Cedeño. Tudor came back out in the bottom of the inning and finished the three-hit, ten-inning masterpiece for his third consecutive shutout of the month. After two sub-par performances, he pitched his fourth shutout of the month and then pitched another ten innings of shutout ball against the Mets' Ron Darling but the Mets turned the table and beat the Cardinals' bullpen in the eleventh inning.“

He did NOT have a big arm - but was almost literally unhittable as a 6’0 left hander during that run. It was the damndest thing.

Cowboy getting a bit much on the misplay by Taylor. Yes, he and every MLB CF should be expected to catch that ball….but running that far and the wall coming into play and it was within a stride of being a jumping, catching snd on way down hitting the wall oddly in a jarring way. It was not a terrible play and he doesn’t make plays 10x harder

It didn't bother me that he did well for the Cards, though. I was just glad he was gone. The outfield was overcrowded (the Reds still had Parker, Esasky, Davis, Milner, Redus, and Venable), and they needed to open up playing time for some of the younger guys. Addition by subtraction.

1) Brantley is amazing on TV.
2) That little spiel by Sadak about being kind to Latin players by trying to learn the language tells me what I expected, that he’s a really kind person who loves this game. He’s great.

If you spend time listening in other markets, you appreciate the Reds crew all the more.

There are of course others I like, but I'm really a fan of the Reds TV/radio team in 2021. They all seem to really enjoy what they are doing.

It’s been such a breath of fresh air. And I’m a Marty defender; he was the voice of my childhood baseball fandom. But Tommy is really figuring it out, Brantley seems to have a new energy, even Chris (who I’ve always loved) has been more engaged than he has in 5 years. Larkin is no good, but it sounds like he wanted to do it and you have to give him a shot. Jim Day clearly loves Sadak too.

Yeah I know it's fun to sometimes get on their case but I just don't get complaints about small stuff like "Sadak's voice was slightly too excited on a flyball". We've finally got solid people who don't treat calling Reds baseball like a chore they're being forced to do, I can live with the little warts.
