Last game before the ASB is often a free-for-all. Almost everyone might be available, even some starting pitchers. Several days rest coming for almost everyone.

I’ve seen some wild games right before the ASB, with player moves galore.

Glad they’re resting Farmer again, he seems to be pretty sore. Don’t want injuries on the last day before the break, it’s an important game, but only one game.

Shogun is this roster's Merv Rettemund. He was signed and brought in to be a starter, told that as well. Then passed over when others began to deliver more. You soon remember seeing him in the dugout more than the field

It is big but not must win. My thing is how many more parts will the Brewers add in the 2nd half? I think they will get at least one impact bat. Who that may be I have no idea. But they usually don't set still when they are in contention.

I think the Reds need to go 2-2 in these next 4 games. 0-4 would be really bad. That would drop them 9 back. Going to have to face in the next 4 games. Woodruff twice Peralta again and Burnes. Reds probably throw Castillo again then Mahle and Miley. Doubt we see Gray till game 4 after the break.

I think the consensus on RZ are that most are alright with Sadak, but I’m not a fan. I don’t think he sounds natural in the booth, at all. The OVER THE TOP Gus Johnsonesque enthusiasm, his consistent complete inability to judge flyballs, the lingo he keeps overusing, it’s all so forced.

Welsh mentions that Ty Steve bypassed AAA, which is something I had forgotten until recently. Makes what he's doing even more impressive, I was high on him in the minors but thought he might need more seasoning. Turns out he's good at learning on the job.

I mean, he had already spent a LONG time getting to AA. Like, what, six years? Five? It felt like it was time for him, to me, anyway.

Naquin had big moments in the first half but it's definitely looking like it's time to pull the throttle back on his playing time. Play him the first few games out of the break to see if it helped but if he's still not hitting start mixing in Shogo and Aquino more.

Senzel is likely a couple of weeks away, if that.

He and Shogo in a semi-platoon (with Senzel playing some infield as well) and Aquino as a three-position backup beyond that would be, to me, pretty ideal.

Naquin can pinch hit for awhile-- and back up Votto at 1B.

That's true, I always have a lot of patience with catchers though. The few exceptions to the rule usually tend to be phenoms like Buster Posey or Yadier Molina, largely they seem to take a while to first develop and then establish themselves.

Yeah I would much rather see Shogo than Naquin at this point, I still think Shogo has upside. Said it earlier on the ORG, but Naquin’s season OPS is now below his career average and he’s had a 650ish OPS over the last month. He’s firmly back in “he are who we thought he were” territory now.

Different strokes, I guess. I think Naquin has definitely cooled off, and should play less, but I don't think Akiyama is the answer. He has shown me nothing in his time so far in Cincinnati, and I wanted him to succeed.

So who should be the CF? Well, I think the answer to that may not be in the organization right now. But until he arrives, I would play some sort of combination of Naquin, Shogo, Aquino, and Senzel -- based on matchups and whoever might have the hot hand.

Another professional at-bat from the team - this time Naquin - out but got six more pitches in. Woodruff has to be close to done now at 102 pitches.

If we ever win the world series in our lifetime we will need a cleanup crew in Ron madden game thread

Brewers apparently are going to let Woodruff finish 6 come hell or high water.

The impressive thing about the team elevating his pitch count is he is not walking guys - it has been a LOT of 2-2 or 3-2 counts to get him here. Good patience - something this team has at time lacked.

Every time Suarez does something good you think maybe it will carry over to the next day, and yet...

Eugenio Suarez, the master of the homerun or inning ending double play.

another handle shot, dribbled to third for DP. Impressive.

A very unlucky foul ball makes the difference in 2 on and 1 out or a DP to end the inning and Woodruff still in the game!

chance to blow it open there. but naquin swings at ball 4, then suarez goes full suarez.

I don’t think that’s entirely fair - he’s also really good at striking out

Out hitting the Brewers 9 to 3, but only one run to show for it. Something has to give.

A HBP and a blast to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead?

Today is a textbook case for the MLB "pace of play" critics. We're at 2+ hours in the 6th inning of a 1-0 game. Ridiculous.
