Possibly the worst infield defense anywhere around…..but a stud 4x1 team!

Now let’s get this big series going with a W

Wheeler is TOUGH, getting all the current Cy Young love and will be tough on Suarez, but I probably would too.

Farmer needs a day off I’d say but dang I wish we had Freeman lol

We will also see 4 of the top 9 OPS’s in this game

Need 2 out of 3

They’re saying they’re trying to get people some rest and maybe so but I’m not buying it 100%. I think they’re using rest as an excuse to play everybody so some of them won’t get their feelings hurt. Maybe I’m wrong but we will see over the course of the rest of the season.

Suarez along with his historically poor offensive season is tied for 6th in the Major Leagues in errors.

Also, I have nothing but respect for Kyle Farmer whose had an amazing season. I'm not sure they would even be sniffing the WC without him.

Not feeling the Wheeler vs. Mahle matchup. Prove me wrong guys!

In his last start, Wheeler pitched a complete game shut out (2 hits!) v. the Mets

Maybe he's tired and he'll give up a bunch of runs this time...maybe? possibly?

I get the need to rest Farmer. I'm struggling with why Naquin against the LHP. Aquino is a better defender, even in CF, and a righty bat. Naquin has gotten a little hot teh last couple of weeks, but he has a .547 OPS vs LHP and his CF defense is almost as bad as Suarez defense at SS. In 502 Innings in CF, Naquin's DRS is -8. Aquino isn't really a CF, but he's a better choice on both offense and defense with a lefty on the mound.

The continuing insistence on playing Geno is really breaking my spirit man.

I know he’s had a couple bad games this week, but Moose is actually likely to rebound especially as he gets more playing time. Geno isn’t going to do anything beyond his best Chris Davis act out there at this point.

Whatever I guess.

Bell usually strongly favors the RHH against lefties. And he knows all these numbers.

So there’s a reason for this, either an injury or absence, a matchup issue, or something of that type.

The reason is Zack Wheeler is a RHP

Don't get me wrong he is still very good. But we need the old Castellanos back. Brewers knew what they were doing.

He was showing signs the game I attended last Saturday. Took a pitch mostly down the middle, a bit to the outer portion and drove it over the RF fence 20 ft from foul pole….beautiful swing. Next AB ripped a pull shot down LF line but was robbed of a double….later in game hit one hard the RF just got to. His swings were good!

Seems like teams recently have been throwing the Reds pitch after pitch that aren’t quite getting there and Reds are wailing a bit and looking bad….Nick is in this group. Not sure how the Phillies will attack us but something to watch.

I think he’s ok but pitchers are pitching him well. As is I’d like to see him a tiny bit up in the box….at least how the Braves pitched him

FWIW Castellanos, Votto, and Moustakas have all hit Wheeler well in limited appearances. This may be an upgraded model.

Phils lineup (obviously) relies heavily on Harper and Mahle destroys LHB. So there’s that. Would be nice to get this one. I don’t love the Gray v. Nola matchup on Sunday.

As for O/U 7.5 Ks for Wheeler… the only way he doesn’t get there is if we run him early. Even 6 IP 4 ER likely comes with 8 Ks against this lineup.

While we're waiting... let's go back a few decades.

In the '72 NLCS , we all remember Bench homering to right off Dave Giusti in the ninth to tie game 5, and the Reds went on to win on the Moose wild pitch later in the inning.

1. In '76, JB also homered in the ninth to tie game the pennant -clinching game 3 against the Phillies . Who gave up Bench's game-tying tying homer? ______________

In '72 it was a game-winning wild pitch that delivered the NL pennant to the Reds. In '76, it was an infield chopper by Griffey that the Philly first baseman couldn't come up with that scored the pennant- clincher.

2. What Phillies southpaw hurler gave up Griffey's high chop? __________

3. What Philly first-baseman, and former Cincinnati Red, mishandled(it was scored a hit) the Griffey chopper? ___________

And the more I hear that relief pitchers can't pitch an inning or two on back-to back days, the more I appreciate Mike Marshall(Dodgers). Try 208 IP in 1974.

Swung on long drive deep LF. And its out of here. Not a bad way to begin an inning in which you need a couple of runs to get even.
He's behind 1 and 2 that was the count and the pitch that Foster took Reed downtown. Bench is back in and Reed serves it up. Swung on long drive deep left center. Maddox on the warning track looking up . ITS GONE. We got a tie ball game
Concepcion a bouncing ball base hit to LF and there is the run that if it scores will gives the Reds the national league flag.
Underwood promptly walker Geronimo and Armbrister was sent up to bunt. Armbrister 3rd base line good bunt. Schmidt throws to first he got the out but a super bunt by Armbrister moves both runners up. Rose was walked intentionally. Then the Griffey chopper. Bot 9 1976 NL championship play by play.

I firmly believe Suarez will come out of his funk. What he's done for the Reds in the past few years warrants that exception. I'm not willing to cast him off so quickly. His numbers are way off, I'll admit but, he's still right up there with HR's and RBI's when runners are on base. His batting average is way down but, he's been productive. And I'd rather he come out of his funk with us than with another team. Lots of great players have had bad years that rebounded. Remember, there were many people on this forum that were calling for Joey to retire the past couple of years. Suarez will snap out of it. And we'll all be very happy for it.

Suarez will come out of this only if he makes adjustments. That everyone watching can see he needs to make. Stop trying to pull every pitch 500 feet. Start going to RF. He does this about once a week and it usually results in good things.

So we got the 6 IP 4 ER, but only 6 Ks for Wheeler. Nice job, Reds. And, yea… HR for Votto and Cast.

The dead football coach or the leatherpants wearing 5 tool loving incompetent former GM?

The later. Bobby knows more about baseball even in his current state.

You mean place kicker, not punter, I believe.

If I was Bell, I'd forget about pitch counts and let Mahle do his thing. He's on it tonight.

Travis Jankowski sighting!!

He is the one with so many ABs without a sacrifice fly I think.

Man, Saurez at short. Got lucky but hasn't worked all year and was a terrible idea here.

Oh wow. Can we still give Geno an error there? He deserves one. Quite a play by Votto and a nice “bank error in your favor,” by the review team.

probably not a bad drive for you to pittsburgh from there in cambridge. you about 2 hours away?

It takes a little longer than that to get there, because of rush hour traffic in Pittsburgh around Green Tree and the Fort Pitt Tunnel. But the drive home is two hours on the dot from PNC Park to my driveway. (Unless I decide to stop in Steubenville for Italian food!)

Only thing I can think is they didn't have an angle showing when the ball hit in the glove to piece with the foot on the bag, so they stayed with the call on the field.

Senzel with a triple tonight, ran hard, slid into third.

I know nothing about knee surgery, but he’s cured, let’s get him up. He fills needed positions, CF, backup infield.
