It's almost the same lineup as Wednesday when they scored 12 runs.

And alot like the lineup that could barely scratch a run vs. Marlins/Cardinals.

1. Why are we batting Suarez in the 5 spot over Famer?
2. Why did we pick up Cabrera if we're going to Saurez out there vs. lefties?
3. This one I'm less confident in.....but we can trying to see if Aquino catches on....but Naquin feels like a better option in the OF today even it it's a lefty.

Tigers have been good since May 1st…they were over .500 in May, June, July and lost last 3 games of August or would’ve been too. Terrible April but this has been an above .500 team for 4+ months

He can say Cabera has 500 HRs, but to enthusiastically say "and he played a game at the GAB" as if it was some kind of accomplishment is kind of silly. Honestly, if he had said it in a Welsh tone, it would be more palatable too..

Actually, I think prior to his last 2 starts, he's had a sub 2.00 ERA , I think for maybe 4-6 weeks, something like that, a significant stretch of time (graphic was on TV, I don't remember exactly).. Things are just evening out. The hitters have more film of him to watch, etc.

Real bad 0-2 pitch but putting Cabrera on with four straight wide ones and then not taking his time to get the out with the next batter probably annoy me more.

Not that not winning this specific game means its over but at some point this team will need to show they can storm back from several runs down, something I can't recall them doing recently except for that brutal loss in Atlanta last month. They didn't in Vlad's last start when it was 5-0 and now it's 4-1, and at home. The Phillies just yesterday beat the Nationals in Washington after trailing 6-0 after 5. You need to find a way to get it done.

That's the thing holding this team back the most right now. Yeah, the pitching let them down tonight, but this should be a 10-7 or 10-8 type game right now with three more swings at them.

India dipping badly on everything. Kinda lucked into a HR last time. What happened to the line-drive swing?

Yes, trying to do too much that AB, keep the line moving, a single scores 2 runs.

A. It’s baseball. You’re gonna lose. A lot. Even to mediocre teams
B. The Tigers have played pretty well since early June. There’s an outside chance they finish 2nd in their division.

Yup. Just searching for the blue sky.

Twice in this game, second and third with less than two outs. Twice, meat of the order. Twice, failure.

definitely can't let the pitching and defense off the hook but yeah, a real lack of quality ABs in big spots outside of India's HR. The Marlins and Tigers haven't had that problem, and the Cubs probably won't either. They need to get this fixed.

I like the way Bell's used Hoffman out of the pen. It's usually lower leverage, he mostly gets the job done and it's a benefit to have a guy who can go multiple innings without a sweat.

Of course before I could finish posting that, he gives up a homer.

Yeah, this offense has been my concern for a while. Considering the bullpen they have, the bats have to be top-5 in the league and it's been clear for a while that they ain't close to that.

To me Larkin seems to argue with everything Sadak says. Welsh does too but not as bad. I think Larkin got mad there and brought the old “guys who played the game” card.

Larkin had a good point though. If the Reds' LH hitters knew how to bunt and did it every time the shift was on, teams would stop shifting on them. So short term, it hurts their slugging, but boosts OBP. Once the shift stops, they can go back to pulling everything and doing the loft angle thing.
Barry wasn't saying to just bunt for the heck of it.
Sadak's response was "people complain about walks, so how are bunt singles good".. Very weak.
Larkin does know a lot more about the game than Sadak.
Sadak pretty much just parrots what Lecure and Welsh say.

It's just strange because on paper the offense is good and there are stretches where they live up to that, but then there come the disconcertingly long stretches where string of mediocre arms can neutralize them for a full week or longer.

I can accept that the offense won't always deliver on the road, but there's no good reason why they've disappeared so much recently at GABP.

Reds have 8 consecutive favorable pitching matchups after tonight, and after that, play the Pirates in 9 of the last 18. It’s been a disappointing couple of weeks, but remember, we are ahead of where we should be. I thought it would take until mid-September to get the WC spot, and there’s a decent chance we’ll still be in sole possession after tonight.

A hitter can do a lot of good by just hitting the ball the opposite way without bunting.

If the Pirates ever stop tanking, that's going to seriously hurt our chances to contend :)

He is probably tired. Rookie this is his first 162 games season. He hasn't had many days off and his body is beat up. Month left. He should win ROY but I don't think it is the lock is was even a couple weeks ago.

Castellanos is super streaky. Probably more .750 OPS than .850 at this point in his career. That’s probably just regression you’re seeing with him. Not having Winker in the lineup hurts them.

just when I said I like you FCB you say something like this. The guy hit .286/.336/.504 over 4 full seasons before coming to the Reds, in absolutely no universe is he close to just a .750 OPS bat.

Its not a good reason, but I think the visions of sugar plums(HRs) get in their heads and overtake the prudent hitting approaches they should have, moreso than on the road, although it isn't that good on the road because in parks that play big they hit warning track flies way too often.
