Reds have 5 lefties and 4 righty hitters starting against the lefty pitcher. Cards have 7 righties and 2 switch hitters starting against righty Castillo. I'm wondering if their pinch hitters will be batting righty also?

I’d rather have Tyler Mahle go deep in the count, maybe walk somebody, run up the pitch count, than a pitcher like this guy, Mikolas.

Fell behind 3-1 on India and was determined to throw a strike. So it wound up in the 7th row of the outfield seats.

Why wouldn’t the CF be in that play…OF job is to slide on that play to avoid bad collision out of path of infielder coming out. As he is starting his slide Barrero curls out into him.

No blame on either IMO

No blame, whatever, but Naquin wasn't at all close to making it. At some point he needs to pull the brakes and stop the bleeding.

Look at both plays where the fielders are positioned and tell me they are the same catch %. If Naquin is 3 steps in it’s still a tougher play than the absolute routine Votto high short fly

I can agree Naquin should’ve been shallower but that ball off the bat was enough of a liner that Barrero was fooled of it’s path….Bader wasn’t camped upset Votto’s but it was easy and Naquin 2-3 steps back still gets that ball.

Good question. Before the streak started, I would say probably between 1 and 2%. However, when we consider the conditional probabilty of winning six straight in Busch, GIVEN that you have won five straight AND have a four run lead , I'd say that the probability was probably 85%. We lost a game we had an 85% chance of winning after gaining a 4 run advantage.

I like baseball and the Reds are my team. When one of the other 29 teams have a player do things well, I appreciate it. Arenado spent good time as my favorite MLB player, I’ve always greatly respected Goldschmidt. I may be the only Reds fan that has no issue with Molina. I appreciate how much they’ve willingly went oppo over the years and IMO definitely won them that one World Series. I appreciate (not as much this year but for a long time) their pitchers never give in. Live on the edge and an occasional walk is better than a cream puff and play off teams that are overly aggressive early in count (Reds)

But I’m never rooting for the Cardinals unless it’s a must need for the Reds chances.

In terms of production this year, he's the #4 starter for the Reds. I would rank them as follows:

Miley
Mahle
Gray (though he could be on the rise)
Castillo
Gutierrez

AR, I was thinking the same thing. If you listened to Castillo's post game remarks, he said he was not at all disappointed in the performance. Thought he did well. Are you kidding me? I want my guy to be PISSED OFF to the nth degree that he gave up a four run lead. I have changed my mind after this one. No way I want Castillo on the mound in a one off WC game with that smiley face , joking around with the opposition attitude. I say if we are fortunate enough to play the Dodgers or Giants, give the ball to Mahle or Sonny Gray.

I would give the ball to Miley. He gets dead serious out there and can't stand when he makes a mistake. Gray tends to melt down if things aren't going his way. But you're right, do not give the ball to guys who think it's just fun and games out there. That's for little leaguers.

Castillo is a fake. Lifetime wins 39 wins and 48 losses. He is a stinker who never will be able to win the big game. He actually thinks he did well in blowing a four run lead in a very crucial game. Personally I think the Reds should have gotten rid of him about two years ago when he might have had some value. Whatever value he had is long gone.

You are most definitely right about Miley. Dude burns when he makes a mistake. Sonny is a bulldog, too. Been elite of late except for two pitches that costed him wins. Mahle has been great on the road. I put any three of them on the mound before smiley face, good natured, Luis. But guess what... they'll throw Luis if given the opportunity.

What makes you think he signed up just to say that? He may go on to have 20,000 more posts. (Btw, there's not really anything all that outlandish in the post. Pretty factual, actually. Luis is part of the culture problem surrounding the Reds' organization. He accepts losing way too easily. I heard him. He was happy with his last outing in which he blew a four run lead).

I rate it a good first post by Cadenza. Good insight.

The part about Luis being happy with a performance in which he lost a four run lead(I heard Castillo say that as well) or the part where he factually stated Luis' career record of nine games under .500 ?

You may be right, facts like that are dumb as hell and should never be posted.
