Shogo might get his first home run tonight, if he can hit a line drive into the LCF gap that gets past the outfielders and goes all the way to the bullpen.

that's definitely a lineup. let's get a W.

The top three can hit, but Votto has cool WAY off for quite some time now, hitting in the .240 range for the past month or more. And his OBP means little if there's no one behind him to drive him in from first. For me, the bottom 6 of the lineup is pretty weak, but the wildcard down there are the #6-7 spots.

Manager Bell keeps doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. That seems insane.

Max Schrock swiped second base to give the #Reds two runners in scoring position with one out in the 1st inning. It was the #Reds' first stolen base this month and just their fourth since the All-Star break.

mhs95_06
09-15-2021, 07:55 PM
Reds worked out Gamel that inning but didn't see that Gamel didn't complete the play for the 3rd out and the misplay for a double was followed up by an assist for Gamel to throw out Castellanos for the 3rd out at home. Then the P leads off the bottom of the inning with a hit.

Nope, Bell won't get fired. Maybe a coach will be changed, but 99% sure Bell will be back.

Seriously, Bell should be fired for presiding over this epic collapse, but it won’t happen. I see a lifeless, uninspired team that has packed it in for the year. These last three weeks have been abysmal to put it mildly. It all starts at the top, but nothing will change with this clown show of an organization. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Bengals organization is better right now than the Reds.

All the Reds had to do was play .500 or even a couple of games under. Instead we go 7-14 and lose 7 straight series including ones to the Marlins, Tigers, Cubs, and the might Pirates. The 1982 Reds finished September better than this.

The game is hard for EVERYONE, so it's not an excuse from a fan's perspective. You're either good or bad. The Reds aren't good, and Reds ownership won't do a thing about it unless the fans show their displeasure with the product. Owners don't look at the game like we do. This isn't just about THIS season, a decent manager would be working NOW to help create a winning culture for years to come. We really had a good opportunity to knock the Pirates out in the 1st. With the first two men on, Castellanos swings for the fences on a 3-0 pitch. He almost got it out, but as a former coach, I just cringed he swung away on 3-0. Very selfish. Maybe the staff wants him to swing away, but this old school guy says when your are desperate for a win and a young pitcher is having trouble getting it over, make him throw a strike. You still have a 3-1 count to swing away. Not smart baseball. Not team baseball. Give yourself a chance for a huge inning. Wait, who was on deck? Oh yeah, Votto.

The Reds have been trending downwards for some time. Anyone looking at the stats and the standings could see it. No point in trying to paint a sign of failure as something that's rarely happened before, I think anyone who would even suggest that the body language for this team has been good in the past month loses credibility.

But none of us are close to the team. We don't know that the brass wasn't saying "God forbid the guys go cold". If I were the manager I would have gone back to the boxscores of when they were on that big run, and just set my lineup everyday as that lineup until the guys' legs fell off. But, TinkerBell feels the need to put out a different lineup everyday. I don't know whether he thinks that he has a million holes to try and cover up in the offense, or that he's going to maybe one day find that perfect lineup that just blows out opponents. He's running out of time.

Lorenzen is a guy I don't wanna see resigned. He is not nor has he ever been very good.
Far better than some of the guys they were running out there earlier in the season. But better cheaper relievers can be found in the offseason.

Jim Day needs to ask Lorenzen if he intends to do that in about 5 straight appearances.

This is the role I prefer to see Lorenzen.. Tied game on down by 1. He isn't a closer and he isn't a set up guy IMO. His stuff is too hittable based on his velocity. Bleh...2 wild pitches

If this offseason proved anything, it's that cheap relievers can't just be found anywhere.

Castellanos left runs on in the first.
Got thrown out at home with weak baserunning.
Failed to deliver in the 7th.
Castellanos has produced a lot of offense, but for good team to win in September, the big dogs have to bark. It has been a disappointing night from him.

They can. They just didn't look hard and settled for cast-off scrubs. Several teams had no problem getting good relievers for league minimum salary.

He seems like an all or nothing guy. Seems like he comes AB a lot with runners in scoring position and either strikes out or GIDP

I been saying that for about a month now. Padres are done they have been for a while. Cardinals have been main competition for the Reds at least in my opinion.

No, they can't.

RPs are very volatile. Teams get lucky occasionally, but thinking you can get proven difference makers for the league minimum is just plain wrong.

Barry Larkin used to call Player Only meetings when they were slumping. Do players even do that anymore?

It's getting close to being too late for that. Should have happened a week ago. I would have liked to have seen Nick or Joey do that before the slide reached the point it is now.

Not what I was saying. Teams make trades all the time and find relievers. I am talking about guys who have had next to no mlb experience. They find them in independent leagues and sign them. A good front office don't spend a ton of money in order to have a good bullpen
I wasn't talking about getting established guys for league minimum.

I really REALLY hate home plate umps. It's objectively insane to me that they are still allowed to call a terrible strike zone when the technology exists to call it significantly better. Do we really endorse human error as a part of this game that makes it somehow better? Effing insanity...

FYI many tennis tournaments including the US Open has gone to all robotic line calls and eliminated lines-people and no-one is complaining..
