@Reds

The #Reds today selected from Triple-A Louisville the contract of LHP Reiver Sanmartin and placed on the family medical emergency list RHP Luis Castillo. C Beau Taylor was designated for assignment.

Depending on Castillo's situation Sanmartin may get two starts both against the Pirates.

If the Reds go 6-0 and the Cardinals go 0-6 this week we are tied.
Just saying. Cardinals are due for a loss or six.

Riley O'Brien will make his MLB debut tomorrow, filling in for Luis Castillo in the starting rotation. Castillo is now scheduled to pitch on Friday.

Luis Castillo will make his start on Friday, Reds manager David Bell said.

RHP Riley O'Brien will make the start for the Reds on Tuesday in Chicago in his big-league debut. Sonny Gray will start Wednesday, following by Castillo and then Tyler Mahle. Sunday's starter is TBD

Sounds like Vlad Sun. Because they would need to send Sanmartin down tomorrow for Riley O and then send either Perez or Riley down for Castillo.
They could keep todays or tomorrows starter up and let them pitch again Sun if they send Perez down tomorrow.

I'm afraid of that too. They'll probably pencil him in as the starter and he'll have a .550 OPS next year.

I don't think they are going to release anyone with less than a week to go -- it's just bad business, especially if they can manipulate the roster in other ways. For example, it might be time to shut Vlad down this year, anyway. He looks like he's hit the wall.

Why does everyone talk like DeShields is terrible? He hasn't looked bad in limited action, and his numbers have been much better than Aquino or Shogo.

I know this isn't saying anything good about him. But he is better than Shogo. I imagine they dump both Shogo and Aquino. Shogo may end up wanting to go back home and they can sell his contract. He has to know by now he can't hit MLB pitching. If he wants to play it is going to have to be back home.

Lets say he is healthy for the most part the next two years. Plays 280 games in two years. Does he pass Bench? That would be one HR for every six games played to tie him. Provided he hits zero rest of this week. That is tough to hit one every six games on average.

He's hit 34 this year, and he is 70 behind Bench meaning he'd have to hit 35 both years. He's hit over 35 twice, in 2010 and 17. I say it ain't happening.

Trevor Rogers has a sparkling 2.67 ERA but I think the number of innings (128) should cap him somewhat, but who knows if voters will look at that.

It's a 20 million dollar option but with a 7 million buyout.

So the calculus for the Reds would be...is he worth 13 million?

Of course it all depends on what he does from now to them. He could drop off a cliff at anytime, but if he is worth keeping at all for 2024 they probably just exercise the option. If he isn't worth the 13 million they just let him go.

Good point. But $13M is a lot for a 40 year old DH. That’s what Nelson Cruz is getting and I doubt Votto will be that good two years from now.

You’re correct that how is producing will factor greatly. My guess is Votto will be a valuable lefty DH against RHP, but not an everyday player. I can see the Reds offering him a 2 year, $20M extension that includes his buy out.

I'm no expert, but I am starting to think that India is pretty good at baseball.

He'll have to toe the company line. I don't know how well his outspokeness goes over with the team. If anyone has been critical of players or management (or umpires) , it's been Sam.

They've always had critical announcers.

That works too. Though for homers, I always go full Malhari. A grand slam gets a Singham.

Glad Barnhart had a successful plate appearance in what may be his final home game as a Red.

Shame they took India out he was a triple short of the cycle and would have got another AB

T.J. Friedl's September cup of coffee numbers aren't the reason to give him a meaningful role on the team next season, but we are seeing during this stint why he has something to offer if he gets a meaningful role.

He’ll get a shot. The question with him is whether or not he has enough movement, he has the velocity to stick.

Castellanos waving at the fans as he walks off the field. He's been a real shot in the arm for this franchise, and I'm really glad he had this year here. Here's hoping he ends up in the American League and just keeps raking.

I know some people only want to count the bad numbers from the 2020 season but the Reds had a winning record last year.

ahhh, good to see this team finishing strong. votto's season is just staggering. if you would have told me he would have 20 HRs and barely an .800 OPS this season, i would have been thrilled. dude has hit 35 HRs and is OPsing .950. that's just crazy town right there. i love it.

also love that india is going to be NL ROY. what a revelation he has been.

i'm gonna miss castellanos. love that guy. will be always nice knowing he put up his career year as a member of the reds in a winning season.

thought the Reds needed to go 5-2 minimum on this homestand to stay in it...and they lost two games, I loathe the Cardinals, more now than ever, more than the 70s Dodgers...

Hopefully Suarez's uptick in September is a harbinger of things to come in 2022. He's looking like the Suarez of old.

These are the kind of wins I like. Nice and easy.

I like these new kid pitchers. They all look pretty good and should help the Reds out in 22.

Somehow, last year is blurred in my memory. You are correct, Sir. I should have said over a 162 game schedule.

Not hard to understand. 2020 was nothing more than a glorified exhibition season.
