As a Bengal fan I want no more layups like the Jets or Bears. Let's take on the tough teams and go get 'em

It's all about the matchups.
Chargers run defense is suspect. It's tough to steal games on the road.
I say 23-17 Bengals, if it's good QB weather. If bad weather, I expect Herbert to be the difference as the Bengals D lets him either run all over them or 15 yard personal foul penalties, or both. Sloppy conditions + Mobile QB + NFL rules on "tackling" QBs = 24-13 Chargers.
Herbert is a running QB? How is he going to run all over them? You already assume that they will have personal foul penalties? If the Bengals can run on the Steelers they sure as heck can run on the Chargers and Herbert not a better QB then Burrow. Don’t care what the weather is like.
I know you’re jaded about this team actually being good but you’re looking under the most weird ways to convince yourself they will find a way to lose. At least you’re not a Bengal fan who’s really a Steelers lover and admirer while being convinced they can just trade for Rodgers without any problem.

With Burrow everything has a different feel. They can beat anyone on any given day.

Poor weather favors the Chargers, in my opinion. Herbert scrambles a lot, yes, from what I have seen. I think any team facing a scrambling QB has the same problems because of the rules that protect QBs.

Nah man, I'm hyped about this iteration. And the more I think about it, I doubt Rodgers wants any part of the AFC North. Doubtful the Steelers have the cap for him anyway.
Not sure how much you have watched of Herbert, but I don't think he is to be taken lightly.

SD has to travel and play a 1pm game that is a huge factor for Sunday that you failed to mention. One of the reasons I am glad they were not flexed.

Losing this game would not shock me after the Jets game. However I have not seen where Herbert scrambling is going to put fear into the Bengals D after dealing with Lemar Jackson the last 2 prior seasons.

This is an EXCELLENT quick watch from Orlavsky on the Bengals' execution of the zone blocking scheme under Pollack - gives you some insight into the work that the line has been putting in to get to this point - and Mixon's role in that - really really interesting...

Pollack has definitely made a difference. But, also credit to the guys he's working with. The level of choreography and execution to make that scheme work doesn't happen overnight. Really interesting to see it maybe start to come together - and at a great time in the season too for that to possibly be happening.

I don't recall much of that at all. Bengal fans knew the previous O line coach (Turner?) sucked. I criticized the Bengals and Taylor for letting Pollack go. It was a sign that Taylor was in over his head

I think the attack was that pollack by himself couldn’t fix things - which was likely true - but they didn’t just rely on that - brought in Reiff. But he has helped get Spain back to a really high level and the line is really responding now.

Palmer was the real deal early on in his career. He was thought of very highly by many, especially during the early part of his run as a Bengal.
Dalton was always doubted. And I think everyone in the league knew who Dalton was. He was a starting caliber NFL QB but not a QB who could take over and win a game by himself.

I legitimately do not understand how the Bengals lost so badly to the Browns earlier this year. The Browns are not a good team at all. The Bengals are way better and should have easily won that game.

Look at the remaining of the Steelers schedule with Ben or whoever at QB and their crappy OL. What's their final record is going to be? In 2003, they went 6-10. Aside from that, their worst record was 8-8. Are they getting to 8 wins this year? Please, tell me how they get to 8 wins even with a 17 game schedule.
I mean, you can just sense a lot of their guys are starting to give up this year. A lot of you guys were talking about how mediocre this team was last week in this thread. How are you all now saying how this Pittsburgh team is a solid team? My entire point is that you don't officially "cleanse" yourself of a rival until you actually beat them when it counts.

What does that say about your posting...you barely have a good word to say about this team, not sure why you follow this thread as the team obviously doesn't bring you much enjoyment. They are 7-4 and have beaten Pitts twice and Baltimore at home, to me that is progress. It's been nice turning on the TV and hearing the talking heads speaking positive about the future...instead of the same old Bengals we have been used to for 5 years. I for one look forward to the next few seasons of growth with this team, and not finding alternative plans on Sundays. The next 3 games are big tests for this team I will be interested in their response to some success.

This is the worst Steelers team since all the way back two years ago. They're not good, but they're not bad either. Beating the Steelers doesn't mean the Bengals are a Super Bowl contender, but they're a solid team. And beating down your rival is always a good thing

Baker Mayfield is All-Pro against the Bengals for some reason.
Baker Mayfield is All-Pro against the Bengals for some reason.
IMO, it's all about match-ups.
Mayfield shouldn't even be playing hurt. Simply blows my mind why pay Keenun 10M/year for just these types of situations if they aren't going to use him? Mayfield, right now, is not helping his cause at all. Don't care how much of a "gamer" he is.
I don't care if the Steelers are considered a good or bad team as long as they lose. But No, IMO, they aren't very good. Just as I was amazed at how bad the Browns beat the Bengals, I was also utterly amazed that we then turn around and lose to a bad Steeler team (lol). I simply credit it to being from Ohia.
But the Steelers have a very tough schedule remaining. IMO, at best they go 2-4 the rest of the way, which would put them 7-9-1. And Cleveland is in the same shoes.
I couldn't believe how poorly the Ravens played vs the Browns this last time, yet still found a way to win.
I think the Bengals are the team to beat in the North.

Dehner had a good point in the HTPG podcast in that the Bengals have only faced two top 10 offenses according to DVOA (Minnesota and Green Bay) and will face the second (Chargers) and third (49ers) best offenses according to that metric in consecutive weeks. We'll know a lot more about this defense in about 10 days.

Herbert may have the better arm but that doesn’t automatically make him the better QB. Jeff George had a cannon too.
Obviously Herbert is far better than Jeff George was but there are more factors than how hard a QB throws.

Tua is rated significantly higher than Burrow is for the year, so yeah, I guess it is a bad comparison…maybe Burrow can hold his clipboard in a few years.
I don’t hate Burrow, he just hasn’t shown himself to be the generational gunslinger I wanted. He’s basically looking like Andy Dalton 2.0. Good enough to start for a few years, but not the kind of guy who’s going to drag his team to victory.

Looks like Pittsburgh might knock off Baltimore. The division is a real cluster at the moment.

Bengals are the best team in the North. Just gotta prove it down the stretch.

The AFC is filled with a bunch of decent but inconsistent teams. Thirteen of the 16 teams have between 6-8 wins. Gonna be a wild next few weeks.

The AFC is completely bonkers this year
The Mixon fumble was a killer in FG range for the go ahead score. The crowd would have been bananas if the Bengals took the lead on that drive.
Literally changed the complete momentum of the game in one play

Yep. And good teams don't let that happen, even when a critical turnover occurs. You find the ways to regroup. The Bengals are a much-improved team. Burrows is the real deal. They're the team to beat in the North IMO. But as far as the AFC as a whole? I think it's still going to go through NE or KC. NE just put a hurtin' on the Titans yesterday. KC comes to Cincy early next month.
In the AFC division titles are still up in the air. Not so much in the NFC.

And if they do win it, it goes to show the AFC North is the worst division in the NFL after it had shown promise of being one of the best. The Ravens/Browns game last week was an embarrassment for the entire division.
I really think we beat Baltimore just like Pittsburgh. Cleveland could go either way but I’m not as optimistic as I am with Baltimore.
Pittsburgh is trash. Ben is going out like Eli Manning rather than Peyton. Baker Mayfield hurts Cleveland more than he helps. And Lamar Jackson can’t complete a three yard pass in crunch time.
And the Bengals can’t win a game outside the AFC North it seems like. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do enough to win the division and lay an egg in the first round of the playoffs.

I think they're the most complete team with the biggest upside, but the OL and coaching are our downfalls. Which is a big reason for the inconsistency with this team.

I sold my home Friday and moving trucks here tomorrow - staying local(ish) to Balt City - just moving further north. Caught scattered pieces of the game. I put that loss on Jonah, Chase and Mixon. Just...make plays fellas. Those turnovers are killers and cost us 21 points really.
