Shutout of the Canadians.

Only thing better would have been a shutout against the Flyers.

Seeing that he's playing for the Blackhawks these days, wouldn't a shutout of the Red Wings be top of the list? Also, Detroit was Pittsburgh's big Stanley Cup rival back in Flower's younger years.

First thing I thought of as a Blackhawk fan (and St. Louis) and was going to get on and type that, but quickly realized that for Fleury personally, it would be the Flyers. They had to get through Philly every year to play in the Finals. (Like Celtics/Sixers so they could play the Lakers in the '80's. If you ask Bird, the Sixers were bigger rivals than the Lakers.)

They cruised past Philly to make those finals. And the Caps and Rangers were more fearsome divisional foes during most of those seasons. The whole Sid-Ovie thing was in full swing. And the King was minding the net in New York.

Yep. The Flyers really haven't been terribly relevant to Pens fans during Fleury's time. Caps and Rangers, for sure. Heck, even Ottawa was probably more of an annoyance than Philly.

That was the impression that I get. The Flyers haven't even been terribly relevant to Flyers fans since the lockout season. Most unforgivable thing in sports is they're wasting Gritty's prime.

There was a time in late 90's where the Flyers were moderately annoying, but I think that was probably more about people wanting to tout Eric Lindros as the "next Lemieux". He wasn't.

I was still stuck in the decade earlier.

There was a three-year period where the Rangers had Lindros and Matthew Barnaby and all I wanted was the earth to open up and swallow the team whole.

If they could have just reacquired Tie Domi or landed Probert, they could have gone whole seasons skating 4-on-5.
