Giants announcers impressed with Greene, spent the entire inning talking about him, unlike the Cubs announcers who completely ignored him, acting like was just another minor leaguer.

Credit to the Giant hitters, great approach.

Hunter’s fastball doesn’t look 100 to me. That probably doesn’t make sense, but I don’t know if it’s his smooth delivery, or what. Seems hittable.

Charlie Goldsmith @CharlieG__

In the first inning, Hunter Greene hit 102 mph.

He overpowered hitters with the fastball at the top of the zone, and he caught the outside corner of the strike zone with both his slider and his changeup.

The hits reveal he needs more than just a 100 MPH fastball. Hopefully he understands this.

He threw a few changeups and they all looked good, I saw two swinging strikes against them. That was the most encouraging part of his outing today for me.

Colin Moran didn't do anything to impress me when he was a Pirate and he's certainly not doing anything impressive so far as a Red.

I've never like Moran, but to be fair, no one on the reds has been impressive today.

Compare these Giants announcers and how they're talking about Cincinnati to how jerky those Dodgers announcers were the other day.

According to Tommy Thrall: The Giants pitching staff had the lowest ERA in the league when Curt Casali was behind the plate.

Drury is now in at shortstop.

Don't you just love this team's philosophy that if you play baseball, you can be a shortstop.

I think the Reds will be a scrappy team similar to the Giants. Maybe not pitching wise.

According to Tommy Thrall: The Giants pitching staff had the lowest ERA in the league when Curt Casali was behind the plate.

Reds ERA was a lot better with him as well. Letting him go was a mistake. Should have trade Barnhart when they could actually get something for him. Casalli is a perfect tandem catcher for the short side of a tandem.

Some interesting bullpen conversions happening. Hoffman, whose transition started last year. Has looked good this spring, still mixing 3 pitches. Buck Farmer — looks like a two pitch guy at this point, and he’s got a bunch of swing and misses with whatever that secondary pitch is (drops straight down like a change or split). He’s been a real surprise for me. Dowdy — big arm. Finally, Riley O’Brien in the 9th today. Curve is an absolute hammer. If he can throw strikes, he’s got a better path as a bullpen guy than as a starter, IMO.
It’s going to be a huge ensemble cast out in the pen this year. Auditions aplenty.

Charlie Goldsmith @CharlieG__

Hunter Greene threw 18 of his 33 pitches today faster than 100 mph. That wasn’t why he was excited with his start.

His changeup –– how confident he is throwing it and when he uses it in the count –– is in a completely different place than it was in 2021.

Going to change the team name to Redbeards.
